RPatz once admitted that until he was 12 his sis used to dress him up as a girl and introduce him to pals as Claudia.

BEVERLY HILLS, California — Until now, little has been known about the upcoming film "Unbound Captives," except for the fact that Robert Pattinson was going to star in it. For Twilighters, that was all they needed to know. The ironic thing is, RPattz's co-star, Oscar winner Rachel Weisz, has plenty of details to dish about the drama but knows virtually nothing about "Twilight."

"Meeting him was vampiric. He sucked my blood," laughed Weisz, remembering their introduction. "Wait, is he the vampire? He is the vampire, right?"

Yes he is, Rachel. And in "Unbound Captives," Pattinson is eager to portray a teen living in the Western frontier who was kidnapped by Comanche warriors at a young age; Weisz is slated to play the mother on a mission to get her son back. Co-starring alongside Hugh Jackman, Pattinson told us recently that "Captives" offers him a character who "can't really be more different from Edward," the leading man of "Twilight."

"It's an independent movie, and they are raising the money, so hopefully it'll happen," Weisz said of the flick, which will mark the writing and directing debut of veteran actress Madeline Stowe. "I don't know if it will [be made], but yeah, I'm very excited.

"It's a great screenplay, and [Pattinson and Jackman] are both great actors," Weisz added of why she is attached to the film. "I like to work with all kinds of talented people, whatever the age."

Weisz — who can be seen later this month in director Peter Jackson's drama "The Lovely Bones" — said another reason she's eager to work with RPattz is his mystique.

"He wasn't star-struck. He's got a whole rebel vibe, right? Yeah, that was his vibe," she said of their meeting. "He's kind of iconoclastic. He's flaunting authority. Yeah, pretty cool."

Your character, vampire Edward Cullen, is 109 years old. You just has your 23rd birthday. What do you want to do in the next 86 years?

Robert Pattinson has a good laugh, and this is a scoop, because in the first two movies of the Twilight Saga, gorgeous, pale and tortured, he practically never laughs.
“I know what I’ll do in the next two years, more or less, because I signed some contracts, but I’m not used to planning anything. I reason with my balls ( in England we call it instinct, in a poetic way), not with my brain. I’m a slave of my subconscious”.

He is dressed with his usual dress: ripped jeans, black fade t-shirt under a checked flannel shirt. On his foot, All Star, even they are black. A style so casual that it gains a label: “homeless chic”.

“Perfect definition. Not for the chic, but for the homeless. I’m wandering through New York, Los Angeles, Vancouver, London, for one year and a half. If you don't have many houses ( or hotels), it is like you haven’t anything. All I need is in three cases. Always ready”.

Up till one year ago, only some Harry Potter’s fans knew who was the English actor Robert pattinson ( he was Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix). Today, instead, he is the protagonist of a new mass love at first sight, chosen for Twilight through 5000 candidates ( for his last screen test, he confessed to have to “drug” himself with half pill of Valium).
He earns millions for each movie, and, if he will accept a TV spinoff of Twilight, he will gain 1 million and a half dollars for each episode.

New Moon, the second installment of the Twilight Saga, written by Stephenie Meyer, earned 141 million in the first American week of programming. And also in Italy, where the movie came out in 750 movie theaters, it smashed every record. Now the 70 millions readers of the books, ( translated in 45 languages) are already counting how long before the third episode will come out (Eclipse, already filmed), and then before the fourth ( Breaking Dawn, that it should begin in late 2010).

Pattinson is shy and kind: he apologizes every time he lights a cigarette, and he does it often. He said that he doesn’t love interviews, but he granted this one exclusively to Panorama, trying to explain the adoration that hit him, and that surprises even him.
They, the adoring fans, call themselves “obsessed” ( obsessed by Rob) and they are waiting for him in official appearances for hours, with signs or words on their clothes, inviting him to bite them.

What do you think of this huge popularity?

It was like being famous in an instant. But I try to be zen: I don’t want to wake up one morning and realize that I have turned into someone really different from who I was.

Your fans treat you like a rock star.

I will never say a bad word against them, I’m not ungrateful. They push me to give the best. I don’t want to disappoint them. And I envy them a little: I haven’t had real idols, and I would have liked to experiment the adrenaline rush that comes from a sighed meeting. Because what counts is being together as equals, not the object of your screaming…

What do you think they discovered in you?

It’s not me. It’s Edward, the vampire: a shady character, romantic, dangerous, vulnerable, elusive, everyone can convey on him whatever they believe.

English edition of GQ Style asked if you are the new Marlon Brando.

I wish! But how can I compare myself to Brando?They pulled out other names of rebels: James Dean, Montgomery Clift….
Too much. They are of course the actors I studied, I analyzed their movies. Dean is nearer to me for his age, but Brando is the Actor with the A. I just bought his novel, Fan-Tan, I didn’t know that he wrote one. Brando, Dean, Clift had one common characteristic: they took all things seriously. Well, we can tell that I have done nothing to be compared to them, except for putting all myself in every movie I made. And I’m speaking abut the intention, not the result.

At Larry Edmund Bookstore, an historic Hollywood library, there are already seven biographies about you.

I try to not read anything about me, even in the internet, but I can’t resist in the end: evident case of masochistic narcissism. Even my mother told me about a blog that called me “repellant”. It was before Stephenie Meyer defended me as a choice, and shut up all the anticipated critics. At 23 my biography could last two lines: he went to school, and he made Twilight. What else?

How should describe your career?

I fell into it. Frankly, I thought to dedicate myself to the music, but you can’t survive with it. Acting was a way to make money (thanks to Harry Potter I was able to go to live by myself), until some small parts in movies that not so many people have seen, made me realize that I really like acting. I specialized myself in strange characters, different from me, extreme. Like Salvador Dalì, in Little Ashes, where it is narrated his love for poet Federico Garcia Lorca, under the eyes of director Luis Bunuel. I already performed a gay sex scene in a movie. But never one with a woman…..

Aren’t these risky choices?

I consider myself boring and I search a more interesting life. My characters add salt to my life. I can feel deeper feeling by acting. If I have to be sad, now I really feel the sadness. I didn’t believe in my reactions, before, because they are too superficial.

Your dream?

It’s still to make an album. But I need a lot of concentration, because music can’t be a hobby. It’s the thing that makes you more naked, more than acting. You can’t blame anyone if you make it bad, you can’t blame any screen writer, or director. There you are, with your soul.

A musical seems a good compromise.

I’m ok as a singer, especially by night, after the third whiskey. But I’m terrible as a dancer.

Have you ever had acting lessons?

No, except at Barnes Theatre Club. My father convinced me to join it: he noticed that the cutest girls went there. That was a way to wake up : I was really shy and until 12 I was in classes with males only. And you have to consider that when I was a child, my terrible elder sister dressed me like a girl and called me Claudia….

What are you doing when you are not acting?

Is there some time when I don’t act? I usually wrote, before. A novel, a black comedy, that I began at the age of 17. But I didn’t touch it from a long time. Then there was also the screen play of a sci fi novel, but I interrupted that as well. If I will continue this chaotic life, I don’t think to finish anything before ten years.

Next movie?

Between New Moon and Eclipse, I filmed Remember Me, a dramatic romantic movie. In February I will begin in Budapest "Bel Ami,", with Uma Thurman and Kristen Scott Thomas. And next summer the western "Unbound Captives," in New Mexico, with Hugh Jackman. My character is kidnapped by Commanches, and doesn’t speak a word of English. They are different movies, I don’t want to be a vampire for the rest of my life.

Is it true that you were forced to work out, and put on some muscles?

Yes, I’m no good at sports. At the "Harry Potter," screen test I lied, and said I played football and snowboard. In reality, as a good Englishman, I can’t do nothing more than billiards and darts. Before shooting New Moon, I discovered boxing. It improved my posture and attitude.

What is the last gift you gave to yourself?

In Vancouver I bought a vintage electric guitar from 1951.

But since his success as vampire Edward in Twilight he became one of the most desired men on the planet. And that could even increase with the start of the second part of the Twilight Saga (New Moon, release date November 26th) Robert Pattinson comes to the interview in black jeans and a black button-down – just like you imagine a vampire. A bit of chest hair can be seen in the neckline. Every now and then our talk is interrupted by screaming fans that are waiting in front of the "Beach Club“ in Cannes.

The important stuff at the beginning: Millions of girls are wondering if you are in a relationship with your co-star Kristen Stewart?

Honestly? I can understand that my fans are interested to know but I just want to say this: She's a wonderful co-worker. I haven't read anything that's been written about us in a long time.

Are girls afraid of you?

If girls are afraid of me? I hope so! When you don't have something dangerous, animalistic as a man you aren't a real man, are you? (laughs)

What kind of women do you like?

Leonardo DiCaprio told me once that with Robert Pattinson there was finally a young man in the film business he could give his title „eternal romantic hero“to. Do you accept?

He said that? Wow. It sounds stupid but do you know what? It is kind of cool. The guy has a great career and made the best out of his early success. In this respect I gladly step into his foot steps.

You are not only a talented actor but also a gifted singer. Your song “Never Think” is on the “Twilight” soundtrack. When will the album be releases?

I’ve been making music for some time. The director heard one of my songs and wanted it for the soundtrack. The whole music thing is a bit embarrassing for me. I once had a band, but now that I’m this popular it sounds weird: Robert Pattinson, the singing actor.

Fans are supposedly camping out in front of your apartment in Los Angeles. Can you keep up counting?

(laughts) They didn’t really camp there. And at the moment I’m not even there too often. But in the beginning they actually waited round the clock there. And they left messages on my car daily.

What were the messages like?

It started with: “Please don’t think I’m crazy but call me.” It built-up to “If you don’t pay attention to me, I kill myself. But I’m not crazy…”

Well, wherever you are girls are screaming. And you still seem to wonder about that?

I’m still wondering in fact. It’s completely crazy. I’m still surprised very time I see a real screaming fan.

Kristen Stewart said you change your clothes rarely. How long have you been wearing today’s outfit already?

I think from the belt upwards everything is new. Sometimes I really wear my clothes until I can’t stand the smell anymore.

Why don’t you change your clothes more often then?

I only have a few things I really like. And I’m always en route, away from washing machines. Why am I even telling you that? Ah, something else, I rarely brush my hair. My dad always wanted to brush my hair when I was little. I hated it. Now I sound like a complete freak. (laughs)

You’re driving an ancient car. You’re apartment has been paid by the production company. Still everyone claims you’re always broke.

Pattinson: 'Eclipse' could be rated R'

Robert Pattinson has revealed that the follow-up to New Moon could receive an adult rating.

The 23-year-old actor has said that Eclipse, the third instalment of the Twilight saga, is a "massively different movie" that could potentially be rated R due to its "huge" battle sequences, STV reports.

Pattinson said: "It’s a massively different movie to New Moon. There’s so many more main parts, and having these huge battle sequences, I’ve never done anything like it in any of the other movies.

"I think it’s really pushing the - I don’t know what rating Twilight was in England, like the American PG-13 or 18 - I think it’s pushing it to the absolute limit. It would be so funny if it was R-rated."

Uma Thurman to Hook Up With Robert Pattinson in 'Bel Ami'

The 'Kill Bill' actress will help the 'Twilight' actor in his effort to reach the top before becoming his wife in a movie based on Guy de Maupassant's short story.

Robert Pattinson has got his partner in upcoming film "Bel Ami" as Uma Thurman has signed on to star opposite him in the drama film, which centers on a guy named Georges Duroy, played by Pattinson. The "Kill Bill" star is slated to play the wife of Duroy's friend, a woman who is extremely involved and connected in the goings-on of Parisian society. She will help Duroy in his ascent, and later become his wife.

Beside Thurman, British actress Kristin Scott Thomas has also joined the cast ensemble. The 49-year-old star, who is best known for her role as Katharine Clifton in "The English Patient", will portray a socialite who falls for Duroy and becomes clingy in the process.

"Bel Ami", an adaptation of Guy de Maupassant's short story with the same name, is a morality tale centered on Georges Duroy, a man who rises to the top by manipulating a series of powerful and wealthy mistresses. Uberto Pasolini will serve as the producer, while Declan Donnellan is in the director seat. Rachel Bennette reportedly provided the script. Production is said to take place in London and Budapest starting from February 2010.

Pattinson Not Interested in Action Blockbuster

Twilight star Robert Pattinson has ruled out the idea of signing up to a blockbuster action movie – because he has no desire to cash in on his popularity.

The hunk has become a megastar since landing the role of vampire Edward Cullen in the hugely successful Twilight franchise, but he insists he’s most content portraying “weirdos” in independent films.He tells Vanity Fair magazine, “There’s no point (doing an action blockbuster) – I mean, I don’t have any material desires at all. I wear the same clothes every single day. I don’t buy anything. And I don’t go out anymore either!”Instead, Pattinson has chosen a low-budget Western based on the book Bel-Ami by Guy de Maupassant as his next movie project, playing a man who “thinks like an animal” and “just rips off and screws over all of his friends”.He says, “(When you play a weirdo), you can always have an excuse… ‘He’s a weirdo!’”

Remember Me Review - From last night's screening

Last night Aristopattz attended the Remember me test screening and wrote this honest and interesting review:

LOTS OF SPOILERS HERE

I'm not good with reviews so I won't even attempt to make one. A friend of mine who attended the screening has agreed to write a review and share it with us. As soon as she's done writing one I will re-post it here for everyone to read. She and I pretty much agree and have the same feeling towards the movie. FYI there will be no sugarcoating in this review. It will be based in real opinions and honest feelings about the movie.

Let me start off by saying that it was great and refreshing to see Rob play a character who isn't a 107 year old vampire. Tyler is a very complicated and challenging character and I think Rob did great portraying this character. We were able to witness another side of his acting. I am excited for him and can't wait to see evolve in his future projects.

Although, he still has a lot of improving to do. He does this weird thing with his face (maybe it's his acting mannerism) where he looks like he's constipated. Don't you dare tell me that you don't see it cos he does it a lot in Twilight. If you disagree I will gladly point them out to you. I think this is what bugged me the most about his acting. He needs to loose this habit. His American accent was okay. It would change from time to time. I noticed that his British accent would slip a little and I could hear his Salvador Dali accent as well.

But let me tell you...Rob was beautiful in the movie. GODDAMN THE BOY WAS FUCKING HOT!

Now on to the good stuff (or the bad stuff)...

The movie overall was okay. It wasn't amazing but it wasn't bad. If you've read the script you'll probably hate the changes they made in the movie (Again, I'm going to leave the technical stuff for my friend to do). We were told that we were the first ones to screen Remember Me and that the movie was still a working progress. There will be changes made to the movie based on the opinions and reactions they receive at the screenings. I can only hope that in any future screenings for Remember Me...they will find people who will be totally honest with their feelings towards the movie. There were only a few of us that were honest with our opinions during the discussion group. This movie can improve if they are given the right feedback.

Now on to the important stuff...

The sex scenes Yes, there were sex scenes in the movie. In fact, there were three.

The first sex scene was about 1-2 minutes long. Most of it are close ups of them together having sex...naked...moaning...and groaning. We do see skin!!!

The second sex scene is what I'm assuming is the next day after they have sex (or it could be a couple hours after the first sex session). They are both naked in bed laying side by side. It was kind of weird and awkward as they both started gyrating under the cover and started to make weird sex faces.

The last sex scene was hot! Although, during the discussion group people felt that this scene was unnecessary and confusing. The scene takes place after he comes back from storming into his dads board meeting and confronts his dad for not showing up to Caroline's art show. He comes back to his apartment (he and Ally had gotten into an argument before he confronts his dad) so they are both frustrated and angry. He storms in and is an emotional wreck. Ally tries to comfort him..which leads into hot, angry, frustrating sex. He's pushing her up against the wall and they have nice wall sex together.

Little tidbits:

Rob does not play the guitar in the movie. He does have a scene with a guitar on his lap but he doesn't play it. :(

There are a lot of skin teasing in this movie. We see Rob shirtless several times. And for those interested yes Emile shows off some skin in the movie too.

Caroline and Aidan are my favorite characters in the movie. They stole the movie! Caroline was cute as a button and Aidan was fucking hilarious!

The ending of the movie was crap. I thought I would be bawling by the end of the movie. This was not the case.

This movie is NOT a romantic drama. It is not a chick flick.

'Twilight' leads People's Choice nominees

Vampires have dominated the nominations for the upcoming People's Choice Awards, with Twilight and True Blood both receiving nods.

Twilight has been nominated for 'Favorite Movie', 'Franchise' and 'On Screen Team' for stars Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner.

Stewart and Pattinson also earned recognition in the individual acting categories, while Lautner was among the 'Breakout Movie Actor' nominees.

HBO drama True Blood was nominated for 'Favorite TV Obsession' and 'Sci-fi/Fantasy Show', alongside The CW's Vampire Diaries, while star Anna Paquin was shortlisted for 'Favorite TV Drama Actress'.

Other movies recognised include J.J. Abrams's Star Trek reboot, X Men Origins: Wolverine and Miley Cyrus's Hannah Montana: The Movie.

Taylor Swift leads the music nominations with three, including 'Favorite Country Artist' and 'Best Female', while Britney Spears and Beyoncé were also recognized.

Meanwhile, the 'Breakout Music Artist' category sees Britain's Got Talent winner Susan Boyle going up against Lady GaGa and American Idol stars Adam Lambert and Kris Allen.

This year's nominees were selected after more than 18 million votes were cast online. Viewers can now select their winners on the awards' website.

The People's Choice Awards will be broadcast live on CBS on January 6.

Pattinson's Mum Upset by Heroin Overdose Reports

Twilight star Robert Pattinson's mum got a scare when she couldn't reach her son after heroin overdose reports.

The actor admits it was one rumour that went too far - and left his mum very upset.

He says, "I had a heroin overdose in New York; that was an exciting one for my mother. My mum calls me so much but I just didn't answer the phone.

"When I found out afterwards, one of the security guys from the film ran into my room, and I was like, 'What are you doing? You could have knocked.'"

Kristen and Robert Explain a Love That Never Was

For months speculation has run rampant about a possible off-screen romance between “Twilight” stars Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson. But Stewart has finally confirmed that whatever characters Bella Swan and Edward Cullen have on screen doesn’t exist between the two stars off screen.

“The whole rumor tabloid stuff is so obviously false to me, and I knew it was false even before I became a part of it,” Stewart says.

She adds that the rumors about the two of them have “been like some sort of ridiculous show. It’s like a soap opera, but filled with false realism. “I don’t take it personally,” she says. “It might seem real to fans, but it isn’t.”

For his part, Rob has acknowledged repeatedly that he is a little bit clumsy when it comes to romance.

“I can’t think of a single romantic thing that I’ve ever done [romantically],” he says. “I would never serenade someone to be romantic – you have to have so much balls to do that. I put a flower in someone’s locker when I was 15 years old, this girl called Maria. She thought that it was someone else and the other guy claimed it as well, which is great.”

Taylor Lautner, who plays a major role as werewolf Jacob Black in “New Moon” has had his own romance rumors to contend with. He’s been reported to be dating country singer Taylor Swift.

“The very funny thing is all of you have seen every single move I make. I can leave that up to you to decide,” he said.

While the stars have been reticent to discuss any aspect of their personal relationships, they have their own ideas about the love triangle between Bella Edward and Jacob.

“For Bella in this film, Edward leaving her is like physical withdrawal. She is an addict when it comes to this boy. I have a breakup scene with Rob in the movie, but that’s not what intimidated me. It was the absence of him that was scary,” Kristen said during a news conference at the Four Seasons Hotel in Los Angeles.

“What really helped was people’s anticipation of the movie and the fans’ idea of what Edward and Bella’s relationship was for them, which was some kind of ideal,” Rob added.

“I was breaking up the ideal relationship,” he says. “I felt a lot of the weight behind that because I was doing something seismic. “I could feel the audience watching it before they could even see the movie.”

The plot in Stephenie Myers’ book presented a problem for the film makers, because Edward has a very limited role. That caused some initial concerns for Rob.

“I was so worried that there would be a back story where he was in South America just moping. It would have been terrifying for me and mortifying for the film,” Pattinson says. Nonetheless, Rob says he wanted to stay true to the story.

“I fought to keep him as limited as possible. He’s not in the book as much,” he says. “I didn’t want to do voiceover either, because that could be very cheesy.”

Director Chris Weitz explained: “You didn’t want too much Edward because then you lose the important sense of missing him. But everyone loves Rob. When Bella hallucinated, she could see Robert, which was a subtle way to ghost him and try to come up with something quite special.”

“We found a happy medium.” Rob added.

Yesterday was the start of the massive Los Angeles press junket for “The Twilight Saga: New Moon”. While an embargo prevents me from writing my thoughts on the film (or I’d tell you), I’m allowed to start positing all the interviews I participated in, so if you’re a fan of Rob Pattinson, after the jump you can either read or listen to his entire press conference from yesterday afternoon.

The big news is what I reported yesterday. At the end of the press conference, I asked Rob “what movies have you committed to in 2010 and have you been told a tentative start date on ‘Breaking Dawn’?” He told me “I think the tentative time for ‘Breaking Dawn’ is fall of next year.” Also, he talked about his next movie “Bel Ami” and a western he might do with Rachel Weiss and Hugh Jackman called “Unbound Captives”. So not only are you going to get a lot of info on “New Moon”, you can learn what he has coming up. Take a look after the jump:

Pattinson: My thoughts at the time or now? I just kind of came to a realization about that scene today. I guess one of the kind of closest moments that I’ve really felt to people’s emotional attachment to the character, there were so many extras there who were just ‘Twilight’ fans that’d flown in to be in the Town Square and
just taking that one step off, that one step into the light, it’s been the one moment since the first Comic-Con where I felt the whole weight of anticipation and I guess responsibility as well to all the people who were kind of so obsessed with the stories. It was a good moment. It was very nerve racking. I felt probably the most in character that I’ve ever felt in the whole series at that moment.

Question: Can you talk about working with Chris Weitz this time around and if the syllabus he gave the actors worked with your acting style?

Pattinson: The syllabus which gave at the beginning, yeah. When he gave that out, I mean I’ve never had that from any director. It was like forty or fifty pages long this thing and this is in addition to a bunch of letters and emails and everything, trying to show that he’s on the same page as us and that he’s completely with us in making the film. He kind of didn’t falter from that attitude during the whole movie. It probably sounds ridiculous how much praise this guy gets. I was just with his wife in Japan and she was kind of sick of [laughs], but I mean he is like a saint. He’s one of the best people that I’ve ever met let alone directors. I think in a lot of ways it shows in the movie. There’s a lot of heart, especially for a sequel and a franchise. I think he’s just a great person to do it with.

Question: Appearing in these visions did you feel apart from your cast mates this time and did you wish it was more or was it a nice to be by yourself a little more?

Pattinson: Those scenes were the hardest scenes. They weren’t really at the time but when I saw the first part of the movie, they changed it quite a bit in the edit and in ADR and stuff mainly because it’s so difficult. It’s not Edward. It’s a kind of manifestation of Bella’s loneliness and kind of desperation. It was always very difficult because I was trying to ask Kristen [Stewart], ‘How would you play it?’ because it’s her opinion. So I guess that was hard, but as for being alone I think that I’ve always felt a little bit aloof as the character throughout the whole series. I think that’s how it kind of is. So I didn’t feel anything particularly different.

Question: What’s this last year been like for you? You came in with the first movie as a new face and it’s now a phenomenon. Are you more comfortable with it now, a year later?

Pattinson: I guess it’s inevitable that you become more comfortable. You’re still fighting against some things. The franchise itself, there’s nothing really scary about it. I like the people that I work with. I generally have very few disagreements about the script or about anything when we’re doing it, especially on ‘New Moon’. It just seemed so relaxed and easy.

Question: That’s on set, but what about everything else?

Pattinson: That’s what I mean. I’ve been on sets, three different sets since January 14th. I’ve had like three days off. I always say the same thing, last year also, about how your life changes. I’m on set all the time and I’m still on set and I’m going to be on set all next year. So I don’t really know. As to getting and things I don’t know that is really like because I haven’t had a sustained period of time where I’ve been off. So I still don’t know how it’s changed. I still feel I’m pretty much exactly the same which is maybe not a good thing.

Question: Can you talk about the scene where you breakup with Bella, how it was to do that?

Pattinson: It’s a strange thing, something weird about it because one of the main things that I felt doing that, or what really helped was people’s anticipation of the movie and people’s, I guess fans of the series idea about what Edward and Bella’s relationship is and what it represents to them as some kind of ideal for a relationship. So just playing a scene where you’re breaking up the ideal relationship, I mean you feel or I felt a lot of the weight behind that. Also, it took away your fear of melodrama as well because it felt seismic if that’s the right word. Even when we were doing it, it was very much like the stepping out into the sunlight scene at the end. You could really feel the audience watching as you’re doing it. So it was a strange one, doing that.

Question: A fight between Edward and Jacob, who wins and the same with you and Taylor [Lautner]?

Pattinson: [laughs] I don’t know. I did hear the other day that Taylor had agreed to an interview where the interviewer was going to fight him. I don’t think that I’d ever agree to that and also looking at Taylor’s martial arts videos from when he was like nine I really wouldn’t want to do anything. Maybe if I had some kind of weapon. Edward and Jacob? I don’t know. I think it’s actually a fact that Edward would win. I think. If I’ve read the books correctly. So I guess I can hold onto that for my ego.

Question: This movie has made you a bankable leading man. How does that change things for you and where do you want to be five years from now?

Pattinson: I’ve only done one movie outside of the series.

Question: And that was what?

Pattinson: ‘Remember Me’ which is going to be out sometime next year. But even that I did with the same studio and I guess I’m still a little bit blind as to what my actual economic viability is outside of the series. I mean it’s definitely different. You get offered stuff that you would’ve never have dreamed of being offered before but that’s also scary as well. You don’t have to audition for anything and so you’re like, ‘Well, I don’t want to do a movie just because it gets made. I have no idea.’ It’s a scary situation to be in, in a lot of ways. You really have to question yourself a lot more than before ‘Twilight’. I did any movie that I got and you try to make the best of it afterwards. Now you’re expected to come into the movie and provide not only economic viability but also a performance as well because people are like, ‘You can’t just mess around. We’re employing you to be a star and an actor.’ So it’s difficult and it’s scary.

Question: Isn’t that what you dream about when you start in this business?

Pattinson: You do. You always think, ‘Oh, when I’ve done a big movie -’ because when you haven’t got a big movie behind you and you’re not bankable everyone is like, ‘He’s not bankable enough,’ and so you can’t get the kinds of roles you want to get. Then when you do you have to, especially with a movie like this where there’s a perceived specific audience which I think that people are quite confused about as well, but people start thinking, ‘You need to get this audience and you need to do this and that and you need to look a certain way,’ and so on. There are limitations to it as well. Whereas when no one is watching your movies and you get a part you can do whatever the hell you want because that’s just the way that it is. So there are good and bad points either way.

Question: What personality traits do you share with Edward?

Pattinson: I guess stubbornness in some ways about some things. I guess he’s pretty self-righteous. I guess I am. I guess I get quite obsessive about things and possessive as well, I think. I don’t know.

Question: Like what?

Pattinson: Obsessive about what?

Question: And possessive of what, your privacy?

Pattinson: In some ways. What am I obsessive about? I have very, very specific ideas about how want to do my work and how I want to be perceived and to the point of ridiculousness sometimes. I don’t listen to anyone else. That’s why I don’t have a publicist or something like that. I can’t stand it if someone’s trying to tell me to do something which might be a mistake sometimes. I guess about that. I like being meticulous and it’s quite difficult as an actor to have that much control. That’s actually an answer to the other questions as well. That’s the good thing about the ‘Twilight’ series as well because in a lot of ways when you agree to the job it gives you a lot more control over the little things which I want to have. I’m like a control freak about it.

Question: Do you appreciate Edward more with each movie and what are your favorite parts about him?

Pattinson: It’s funny about ‘New Moon’. When I read ‘New Moon’ it gave me ideas about how to play the first one and it’s the one that I connected to the most and the one that humanized Edward the most for me as well. In the first one he still does remain from beginning to end an idealistic character but in the second one he makes a mistake that’s acknowledged by everybody including himself. Also he’s totally undermined by more powerful creatures and he’s undermined emotionally by people as well. I think that’s what humanized it. Since I’ve read that book I’ve always kind of liked him as a character. I try to play that same feeling throughout the first one and after the third one, as well, trying to get some kind of element of an all powerful person or almost all powerful person, the kind of hero of a story who just refuses to accept that he’s the hero. I think there’s something admirable there. I don’t know if I really made any sense.

Question: How do you separate falling in love in real life and then the woman that you’re cast against?

Pattinson: You’ve always got to remember that you’re being paid and then there’s a lot of connotations that come with that [laughs]. I think that’s one of the major separations.

Question: Did you agree with the decision to make Edward a vision and how do you avoid letting your life become just one big blur?

Pattinson: There are random moments which sound out but generally you’re working so much, this year I’ve been working so much that you do your living in an almost alternative reality. Also, the hours on a film set are so long that you’re doing like doctor hours and every doctor that I’ve ever spoken to says the same thing which is you have no idea what’s going on other than working. You’re away from your family and friends and all of that stuff. The apparitions thing. I was always very worried about that because even before we started shooting people were asking questions, like, ‘Do you think people are going to be worried about not having enough Edward in it?’ He’s not in the book. I was so worried that it was just going to be random scenes. There was talk at the beginning of showing his back story in South America, going around moping or something. That would’ve been terrifying for me and I think that it would’ve been catastrophic for the film as well. But I fought as far as I could to keep it as limited as possible, mainly because it just doesn’t happen in the book. But then at the same time it’s scary just to do voice over because it could well end up being very cheesy. I guess there’s a kind of medium. Also, it was interesting because you’re not just there. You’re supposed to be playing something, whether I achieved it or not. You’re just playing a vision and if you play it as realistically as possible it becomes an interesting thing to try and figure out. So it was interesting for me at the time.

Question: How do you fight?

Pattinson: In reality?

Question: No. You said you fought as much as you could.

Pattinson: Oh! I guess I just talked to Chris. He wasn’t ever going to just do things for the sake of doing it. He was always on the side of the story and even since it’s been edited there’s been loads and loads of the apparition sequences cut out and a lot of them Chris cut out without me saying but when I was doing ADR I was saying, ‘Things looked more interesting. Things looked more kind of mystical if you cut out more of these shots.’ It becomes more eerie and more realistic the less of these visions that you have and the less visible. Just having these head-on shots doesn’t make it a vision. It just becomes a superimposed image which is not interesting.

Question: Have you ever had your heartbroken like Edward when he left Bella?

Pattinson: I’m just trying to think of a really stupid answer and I can’t think of one [laughs]. No, I don’t think so.

Question: You seem to have gotten the brunt of the crazy fan. Has there been anything that’s cracked you up during all of this?

Pattinson: Yeah, a lot of the time. There’s been so many things. Recently I have less direct interaction with people because there’s way more security on the sets and stuff, but I always find it funny when older people come up. There was a woman who came up to me the other day who must’ve been in her nineties and was saying this stuff. It’s very unusual and they say the exact same things as twelve year old girls [laughs]. That is kind of bizarre.

Question: When you’re shooting the romantic scenes what’s going on in your head and are you a romantic person in your life? What’s the most romantic thing that you have done?

Pattinson: I haven’t done that many romantic things. What was going through my head, it’s weird, I keep being told by people that I need to pump up all the stuff about the action and all this stuff for the guys to go and see it. It’s ridiculous. It’s like saying guys can’t appreciate romance. I don’t think that you can say that about ‘Gone With The Wind’ or something. I’ve watched ‘Titanic’ and I didn’t think, ‘Oh, this is a girl’s film.’ Unless you’re a complete idiot of a guy, I don’t really think…and especially in ‘New Moon’ and in the whole series I’ve never played it as if I’m playing a series of girl’s films, doing something just for girls. I don’t feel like I’m doing ‘Tiger Beat’ every week, a kind of animated ‘Tiger Beat’. I like doing the romantic scenes. I felt like the storyline in ‘New Moon’ is very heartbreaking and true. I didn’t think that I was doing something just for the sake of romance. In a lot of ways it’s a really sad story. The most romantic thing I’ve ever done?

Question: Have you serenaded somebody?

Pattinson: Oh, no. I don’t think that I would ever do that to be romantic. You have to have so much balls to do that. Jesus Christ. I can’t think of a single romantic thing that I’ve ever done. That’s terrible. I put a flower in someone’s locker when I was fifteen years old, this girl called Maria. Maybe I was fourteen. She thought that it was someone else and the other guy claimed it as well which is great.

Question: Can you talk about growing this romantic triangle in the series and also what it was like watching Taylor transform himself?

Pattinson: I didn’t see Taylor until just a little before we started shooting. So when he came back I had the same reaction as everyone else, like, ‘Jesus. Now I have to go to the gym.’ It was strange. This one was weird because I hardly did any scenes with Taylor. We did just the scenes at the beginning and the scenes at the end and that’s it. He had his entire storyline develop without me being around which is interesting because I had no idea where his performance was going and so it wasn’t really a competition or anything. It was all sort of independent. Whereas in ‘Eclipse’ we’re doing scenes together all the time with Bella and so it really shows the dynamic in that one.

Question: Who’s your favorite movie vampire of all time and why?

Pattinson: I always think of the wrong people. I always think of like Ethan Hawke in ‘Interview With A Vampire’. But then he’s not a vampire. He’s the interviewer.

Question: Gary Oldman in ‘Dracula’?

Pattinson: Yeah, I like Gary Oldman. There’s actually a bunch. I really like Wesley Snipes. I think that Wesley Snipes is great.

Question: What’s the weirdest or funniest thing you’ve ever read about yourself, and how do you maintain a balance with letting fans know who are and keeping your private life private?

Pattinson: The weirdest was something recently, some magazine had on the cover that I was pregnant. I was like, ‘Wow,’ but it was without a hint of irony or anything. I didn’t really know what to make of that one. I don’t know if that even qualifies as libelous because they can just say, ‘Well, it’s obviously fiction,’ but it’s printed in a non-fiction magazine.

Question: When are you do?

Pattinson: I did see a couple of comments under the article, saying, ‘That’s why he always wears a jacket. He always wears layers to hide it.’ [laughs] And how do you keep your private life private?

Question: But also showing your fans and the public that there’s more to you than just Edward.

Pattinson: I think you just do it through doing jobs. I think it’s such a risky thing doing interviews. I try to limit the amount of interviews that I do because no one is that interesting especially when you’re not really saying anything. And I don’t particularly want to be an character in society or whatever. So I guess the only thing that you can do is do jobs and see if people respond to that. I’m always holding onto the fact that I don’t really know who I am. Hopefully I won’t compartmentalize myself because of that, because I’m completely ignorant of the whole. I’ve never really struggled with anything up until recently. I’ve got to step being so self deprecating because people are starting to believe it. ‘That guy is an idiot.’ So I’ve I tried to stop doing that.

Pattinson: I think the tentative time for ‘Breaking Dawn’ is fall of next year. I think. They may well change that. And depending on how things go I’m doing a movie called ‘Bel Ami’ in February which is an adaptation of this Guy de Maupassant novel. I’m doing, I hope, a western with Rachel Weiss and Hugh Jackman called ‘Unbound Captives’ at sometime around there as well. They have to try and model everything around everyone’s schedules and stuff.

Question: Will you be a gunfighter?

Pattinson: No, actually. I’m playing a kid who’s kidnapped by the Comanche’s when he was four years old and he’s brought up by them. Then his mother spends her entire life trying to find me and my sister. When she finds us we can’t remember who she is and can’t remember anything about the western culture that she grew up in and I speak Comanche in the whole movie. So you can’t really get more different from Edward.

Question: Is that the reason you wanted to do it, because it is so different from Edward?

Pattinson: I actually signed onto that after I’d done ‘Twilight’ but in the summer, just a couple of months after I finished. It was really before anything had happened. I wasn’t really even thinking about that. It’s just a cool script. It reminded me of -

Question: ‘The Searchers’?

Pattinson: It is kind of similar to ‘The Searchers’. I mean, that’s the scary thing, yeah, but I mean actually it’s nothing like ‘The Searchers’. Only in general terms. It reminds in a lot of ways of ‘Giant’ which is one of my favorite movies. I think that’s why I responded to it.

Question: Is James Dean one of your favorite actors?

Pattinson: One of them, yeah.

Question: Was it a big shock to have Bryce Dallas Howard on the set of ‘Eclipse’ instead of Rachelle Lefevre?

Pattinson: Yeah, it was a shock but she’s lovely. She’s really, really nice.

"Twilight: New Moon" will be arriving in theaters this month, November 20 to be exact. In the film, the romance between mortal and vampire reaches an intense and dangerous new level, and reveals a conflict that will haunt Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) as the story continues. Delving into the age-old rivalry between the Quileute tribe and the vampires, which comes to a head with her best friend, Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner), and her love, Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson), Bella quickly learns that the supernatural world that she longs to become a part of will put her at more peril than ever before.

At the film's press day, Reel Empire had the chance to talk with Robert Pattinson who plays Edward Cullen in the film.

Q: What has this past year been like for you? How are you dealing with things? Are you more comfortable with everything now?

Rob: I guess it's inevitable that you become more comfortable. You still fight against some things. There's nothing really scary about the franchise itself. I like all the people I work with. I generally have very few disagreements about the script or anything while we're doing it, especially on New Moon. It just seemed so relaxed and easy. It was 40 or 50 pages long, in addition to a bunch of letters and e-mails, trying to show that he was on the same page as us and was completely with us, in making the film. And, he didn't falter from that attitude, throughout the whole movie. It probably sounds ridiculous how much praise he gets. I was just with him and his wife in Japan, and she was even kind of sick of it. But, he is like a saint. He's one of the best people I've ever met, let alone directors. I don't think you can say that about Gone with the Wind. I've watched Titanic and I didn't think, "Oh, this is a girl's film."

Especially in New Moon, and actually in the whole series, I've never played it thinking, "Oh, I'm in a series of girls' films and I'm doing something just for girls." I don't feel like I'm doing an animated Tiger Beat, every week. I like doing romantic scenes. I felt like a lot of the storyline in New Moon is very heartbreaking and true. I didn't think I was doing something, just for the sake of romance. I thought, in a lot of ways, that it was a really sad story.

Q: Are you a romantic person, in real life? What is the most romantic thing you've ever done?

Rob: I haven't done that many romantic things, in my life.

Q: Have you ever serenaded somebody?

Rob: Oh, no! I don't think that would ever be romantic. You need to have so much balls to do that. Jesus Christ! I actually can't think of a single romantic thing I've ever done. That's terrible.

Q: Have you ever given anyone flowers?

Rob: Yeah, I did. I put a flower in someone's locker when I was 15 years old. This girl, called Maria. Maybe I was 14. She actually thought it was from someone else, and the other guy claimed it as well, which was just great.

Q: What was it like watching Taylor transform physically?

Rob: I didn't see Taylor until just a little bit before we started shooting, so when he came back, I had the same reaction as everybody else. I was like, "Now I have to go to the gym."

Q: What has it been like to develop the romantic triangle?

Rob: It was weird because I hardly did any scenes with Taylor. We just did the scenes at the beginning and the scenes at the end, and he had his entire storyline develop without me being around, which is interesting because I had no idea where his performance was going. It wasn't really a competition or anything. It was independent. Whereas, in Eclipse, we did scenes together, all the time, with Bella. It really shows the dynamic in that film.

Q: Who is your favorite movie vampire of all time, and why?

Rob: I don't really know. I always think of the wrong people. I'll be like, "Ethan Hawke in Interview with a Vampire," and someone will say, "He's not the vampire." There's a bunch. I actually really like Wesley Snipes (in Blade). I think he's great.

Q: What's the weirdest or funniest thing you've ever read or heard about yourself?

Rob: Recently, some magazine had on the cover that I was pregnant. I was just like, "Wow!" And, it was without a hint of irony or anything. I didn't really know what to make of that one. I don't even know if that qualifies as libelous because they can just say, "Well, it's obviously fiction," but it's written in a non-fiction magazine. I saw a couple comments under the article saying, "That's why he always wears jackets. He always wears layers to hide it."

Q: How do you maintain the balance of letting your fans and the public know who you are, outside of just being Edward, but also keep your private life private?

Rob: I think you just do it through doing jobs. It's such a risky thing, doing interviews. I try to limit the amount of interviews I do. No one is that interesting, especially when you're not really saying anything. And, I don't particularly want to be some kind of character in society. So, I guess the only thing you can do is do jobs and see if people respond to that.

But, I'm always holding onto the fact that I don't really know who I am, so hopefully I won't compartmentalize myself because of that. I'm just completely ignorant of the whole thing. I've never really struggled with anything, up until recently. I've got to stop being so self-depreciating 'cause people are starting to believe it. They'll be like, "That guy is an idiot," so I've tried to stop doing that.

Q: Was it a big shock to have Bryce Dallas Howard on the set of Eclipse, instead of Rachelle Lefevre?

Rob: Yeah, it was a shock, but she's lovely. She's really, really nice.

Q: Have you been told a tentative time that you might film Breaking Dawn?

Rob: I think the tentative for Breaking Dawn is Fall of next year. I think. They may well change that.

Q: What movies have you committed to in 2010?

Rob: Depending on how things go, I'm doing a movie called Bel Ami in February, which is an adaptation of a Guy de Maupassant novel. And, I hope I'm doing a Western with Rachel Weisz and Hugh Jackman, called Unbound Captives, sometime around there as well. They've got to try to work around everybody's schedules and stuff.

Q: Who do you play in Unbound Captives?

Rob: I'm playing a kid who is kidnapped by the Comanches, when he was four years old, and he's brought up by them. His mother spends her entire life trying to find me and my sister, and when she finds us, we can't remember who she is or anything about the Western culture that we grew up in. They speak Comanche, the whole movie. You can't really be more different from Edward.

Q: Is that why you responded to it?

Rob: No. I actually sign on to that after I had done Twilight, in the summer, just a couple of months after I finished. It was really before anything had happened, so I wasn't really thinking about it. It was just a cool script and it reminded me, in a lot of ways, of Giant, which is one of my favorite movies. I think that's why I responded to it.

Q: Is James Dean one of your favorite actors?

Rob: One of, yeah.

Q: Are you going to have to learn Comanche for your role?

Rob: Yeah.

Q: Have you had time for your music?

Rob: I'm trying to.

Just because I perfectly know that many women over 14 will envy and perhaps even envy me for this article, just because I know that every single word of this will be vivisected worse than a Mafioso booklet, just because I know how women over 14 can be ferocious, I prepared myself to interview Robert Pattinson in a scientific way. Mission: to discover why this guy makes all women crazy.

Los Angeles, February: I found one of his biographies ( well, he is born in 1986, already a biography!) on a bookshelf in Book Soup library in West Hollywood, and I read it entirely. Not a great exploit, the book is 100 pages with a lot of pics, the author is Paul Sterling, you can see the book on Amazon. I Discover that Rob was an incompetent at school, he was really thin and when he shooted Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire ( his role was Cedric Diggory ), the production made him working out, to amount his muscles. He declares: “ I was very uncomfortable. I stayed often at the borders of the set and wanted to throw up”.

Los Angeles, April: during a business dinner at Chateu Marmont, I met Catherine Hardwicke, the director of Twilight. I had her over a barrel to make her telling the story of the casting for Edward Cullen’s role. “ We have seen a lot of guys. Robert impressed me a lot, but the rest of the production didn’t want him: they found him ugly, ugly, ugly! But I am a hardhead and I call him together with Kristen Stewart at my home. I put them laying on my bed and they tried a dialogue. They were perfect together”.
Even many fans of the Saga ( that means the novels from Stephenie Meyer, all published in Italy by Fazi ), were averse to Pattinson at the beginning: blogs were crazy writing that he was not the right Edward.
The rest is history. History of fans deliriums, of unanswered questions, such as: is he in a relationship with his on screen partner Kristen Stewart? It seems not, but it is not sure, People magazine often wrote they are together, the persons concerned don’t confirm. But everyone talks about this: rob is the center of a collective passion like Leo Di Caprio and Titanic.
But Titanic hasn’t had a sequel ( of course, they all died in the icy waters), while Twilight yes ( of course, they are vampires ).

Milan, beginning of May: we now know that the sequel, New Moon, directed by Chris Weitz, will be shooting partially in Italy, in Montepulciano. I follow news about the shooting on newspapers and on the Net. I collect newspapers articles, and print crazy posts from every blog. It comes out that the artistic director of Roman Theatre’s Festival of Volterra asked for an intervention of the Ministry of Culture, Sandro Bondi, to “ block the havoc, how can you pass Montepulciano off as Volterra??”.
Well, it went so. In the novel Bella came to Volterra with Alice, Edward’s sister, trying to avoid that Edward will killed by the Volturi ( a category of super vampires particularly bad ), but the production chose to shoot in Montepulciano, because it was less expensive, it seems.

Cannes, May 20th: during the Film Festival, Italian Vanity Fair was granted with an exclusive interview to Robert Pattinson. We met at Summit office, the indie of all the movies of the saga. Robert is here for a few days. Then, he will go to Italy to shoot his scenes in New Moon: a few scenes. And in New York, they are waiting for him, for shooting, almost simultaneously, Remember Me, that doesn’t fit at all with Twilight. In August, he will go to Vancouver, shooting Eclipse, the third movie of the saga. So, when we were on holiday on the beaches, Rob Pattinson worked all summer, keeping diligently his pale skin.
He enters in the empty and anonymous room, he shakes my hand and seats on the couch beside me, leaning his head in his hands waiting for the first question. He wears a pair of jeans with holes and a dark skirt with sleeves rolled up.

He appears shy and kind, with narrowed eyes from sleep depriving.

Were you at some party yesterday evening?
“Three, and all wrongs. Every time I came in, the party was already finishing. The third was the worst. I was with Emile Hirsh and his girlfriend, we entered in this villa, and there was almost nobody, except for a hundred of photographers. It seemed a paparazzi convention. We speed away!”

In New Moon you are barely present: only in flashbacks and some scenes. Are you sorry about this?
“To the contrary, so I’m not under too much pressure”.

Because, in this last year, pressure has been a constant in your life.
“It’s bizarre becoming famous in this way. Believe me,. It’s something that I never wished.”

What did you wish?
“I hadn’t projects, I had no particular dream. I always livde day by day.”

You were in a band, the Bad Girls. Do you play again?
“The band was when I was 15. now I play piano and guitar, sometimes, only for me. I couldn’t allow myself doing concerts. I should always be “the guy from Twilight that wants to be a musician”.

Is it real that you have always to go around with your bodyguards?
“Unfortunetely, yes: it’s totally crazy, I know, but I am getting use at it. It’s only because, when I’m without my bodyguard, I am afraid: it is nearly impossible even come out from a restaurant and get in a car.”

Gossip magazines and internet sites claim that you have a new girlfriend every week, or, alternatively, they say that you are with Kristen Stewart. What is it real?
“Nothing. I am single. Almost everything that came out about my private life is false. I think it happens because, really, there is no much to say about what I’m doing. While I am filming, I live practically reclused in hotel: I come out only to work, and sometimes to go out for dinner. But, if you read the magazines, it seems that I have a frantic high life.”

But, if you wanted, you should have no difficulties in finding a girlfriend.
“It was a lot easier before Twilight. Now it is damned difficult to go out with a girl. Nowadays, if I go out with a girl, immediately I have been photographed with her, then they begin to pursue her on Facebook, they found her email, perhaps they insult her. And her, at the end, will hate me. I don’t want to be hated and I don’t want to live secret relationships: too much effort. So, for now, no girls.”

What does your agent, your press agency, advice you?
“ I have no personal press agency and I want to avoid this. I have a clear idea in my mind: my life must not begin a reality show. In fact, if I see a photographer I go away. I give only a few interviews and I don’t do public appearences if it is not necessary for movies promotion. I don’t want that people get tired of my face.”

How do you see in your future?
“I want to open my production company. What I hate the most in actor’s life is the idea that you have to wait until someone else decides what you have to do. I don’t like this feeling of powerlessness, the total less of control. I always admires Warren Beatty’s career: actor, director, producer.”

Is it true that you will soon filming a movie from Bel Ami, the masterpiece of Guy De Maupassant?
“Yes, I’m really happy. It’s one of my favourite novel. It explain what ambition is, anger, desire of success. In some way, Bel Ami is a sort of vampire, of different nature.”

By the way, what is the remark that you receive more often?
“Today you seem more pale. They told me one time at a minute. Uff…”

The interview is finished. I will see Robert again from a distance a couple of times: on the red carpet of Inglorious basterds, where he will almost steal the scene from Brad and Angelina, and at the AMFAR gala, where one of his kiss will be auctioned. Rome, October: New Moon is ready. It will open on October 18th, but some scenes are shown at Rome Film festival. And in Rome I meet Melissa Rosenberg, the screenwriter of the movie saga, the real expert of the saga, because she is constant, while directors change at every movie.
I asked Melissa, a nice woman in her forties, the fundamental question of my mission, began in February: why Edward the vampire and the actor that impersonates him, have becoming such a phenomenon for the teenagers all around the world?
“Edward” she answered me, “ is tortured, mysterious, and Robert has the right face to narrate this. When they are teens, all girls fall in love with someone like this, because they have the ambition to “adjust” them. Only a lot of time after, they understand that there is nothing doing”.

Everyone wrong about Nicole Kidman and Robert Pattinson pairing up

ScreenDaily.com announces in a headline today, “Pattinson, Kidman board Bel Ami for Protagonist,” and goes on to report, “In an intriguing star pairing, Twilight sensation Robert Pattinson is teaming with Nicole Kidman to star in Bel Ami, the film of Guy De Maupassant’s erotically charged story of ambition, power and seduction.”

The story was picked up EVERYWHERE.

So is it true?

Well, yes, it is based on a novel by Guy de Maupassant, and yes, Pattinson will play a cad.

What’s NOT true is that Kidman will star opposite Pattinson. While she did consider the project, the film’s timing didn’t work out. Kidman’s rep told Gossip Cop that “Bel Ami” is “categorically not happening for her.”

Robert Pattinson, it has just been announced, will be joined by none other than Cold Mountain and Australia beauty Nicole Kidman for his upcoming film Bel Ami.

Pattinson, you know, will be taking the lead in the book-to-film translation of Guy de Maupassant's novel by the same name. Ditching the Edward Cullen swagger and charm from The Twilight Saga: New Moon and The Twilight Saga: Eclipse for a more bedding provocateur role in Bel Ami, Pattinson will begin filming the movie in February, 2010.

Presumably this will take place once his Allen Coulter film Remember Me debuts in theaters (February 12, 2010).

Pattinson hails from the United Kingdom, while Kidman is happily from the land down under (Australia). This will make Pattinson's on-screen time with the Aussies in 2010 double-fold as he will also work with Kidman's Australia co-star Hugh Jackman in Unbound Captives - also expected to film in late 2009 to early 2010.

Time was, girls were in short supply at Comic-Con, San Diego’s annual comic-book/science-fiction/fantasy conference. Now they’re packed into Hall H (capacity 6,500), waiting super-patiently through all the dork stuff—the endless Tron Legacy preview and a panel where all the geeks in the audience got worked up about some weird, tricked-out, like, car. Then The Final Destination, in which a bunch of people get impaled, decapitated, and churned up by escalators and cars. Um, that’s mature. Now Astro Boy is zipping around the screen, chirping, “I’ve got machine guns … in my butt?” The girls are so not LOL. After all, they’ve been lined up since five this morning to catch a glimpse of Robert Pattinson, otherwise known as “The Pattz” or “Edward Cullen,” the really hot vampire he played in Twilight, and by now the super-cute outfits they picked out for him—short-shorts and Twilight T-shirts—have gotten sweaty, and their makeup needs to be re-applied.

At last, the moderator’s voice reverberates dramatically throughout the darkened hall, “And now … ” The shrieking begins—deafening, glass-breaking, amusing for about three seconds, until it becomes excruciating. The moderator continues with a joke: “What would you do if I said, ‘That’s it. Thanks for coming’?” Some of the guys, hostile to this new Comic-Con element, roar in approval, “Yeah!”
The moderator relents, however, and introduces the cast members of New Moon—the second installment in the Twilight saga, opening this month—as they take the stage to increasingly loud rounds of applause: Ashley Greene (Edward’s vampire sister, Alice), Kristen Stewart (Bella, Edward’s human girlfriend), and Taylor Lautner (Jacob, Bella’s hunky friend who’s sometimes a werewolf). “I think we have one more backstage … ” he says at last.

Pattinson, in jeans and a well-worn flannel shirt over a T-shirt, ambles onstage with a pleasant but befuddled smile and some friendly waving. The girls are no longer just shrieking. They are hyperventilating, tittering deliriously, grabbing one another by the arms so that they don’t pass out. “Omigod, omigod, Oh my God!!!!!”

Sitting on the panel, the rumpled, unshaven idol starts looking a little ill at ease. He seems to be in a fidget-off with Kristen Stewart, with whom everyone believes he is having a tortured offscreen romance. She’s hugging her knee, pulling at strands of her new, black, rock ‘n’ roll shag. He’s rubbing his neck, moving his malleable hair from left to right, and tugging at his eyebrows. But his every odd tic, his every self-effacing, British, fumbling answer to the questions thrown his way, is merely a new reason to be charmed.

Q: I love your music. Would you consider doing any more open-mike nights?
Pattinson: “Uh, um, yeah, I mean, I would. I’m just too, I’m kind of, uh, a pussy, I guess.”

Not since Leo, circa Titanic, has a young actor been so aggressively beloved by 13-year-old girls worldwide. But rather than working his way through supermodels, Pattinson, who’s been living out of three suitcases for the past year, has been feeling overwhelmed, self-conscious, and guilty. “I’m trying not to drown,” he says in his hotel room at the San Diego Hard Rock Hotel, which is littered today with beer bottles, old scrambled eggs, a half-eaten Twix bar, and a dirty pair of jeans on the living-room floor. And he notices his unmade bed. “Oh, God. Sorry about that.”

It’s early August, and though he’s been in New York filming Remember Me, a romantic melodrama in which he plays a privileged N.Y.U. student coping with a family tragedy, he hasn’t really seen any of New York, he explains. His social life has been limited to the bland Waldorf Towers, in Midtown, and to the two people staying with him in his suite: his sister Lizzy, who’s been sleeping on the foldout sofa, and his best friend, actor Tom Sturridge, who’s got the cot. He has other friends, but they’re kind of broke, and Pattinson is too self-conscious to fly them in—“Then you feel like a dick.” He’s sure he’s driving people crazy by constantly talking about how he can’t leave his hotel room. And he sees his inability to relish his fans’ reverence as his own shortcoming. “I guess I’m not the type of guy cut out to do a franchise,” he says. “I’m not much of a crowd person.”

What makes the lavish attention more awkward is that he believes he hasn’t done anything to deserve it—or any praise at all, for that matter. He usually doesn’t feel like talking to anyone, but silence makes him so uncomfortable that he ends up filling the air with “a load of rubbish” or just laughing nervously. He is often apologizing—for being boring, for the “douchey” terrace that’s attached to his hotel room, for telling you a story you might have read somewhere else already. When talking about seminal moments in his life, the main emotion he recalls is embarrassment. He’ll dismiss his work in any way he can. When roles have been difficult, he’ll say, “I had no idea what I was doing.” When roles have been easy, he says he didn’t have to do anything. Despite the fact that he is an exquisite beauty—with perfectly formed red, red lips and a face that might have been dreamed by the Romantic poets—he thinks he resembles “a cartoon character.” One of his legs is longer than the other, which makes him look, he assures you, “like an idiot.”

“I’m unbearably self-conscious about stuff,” he admits. To the point where, while filming scenes before the army of New York paparazzi that has been following him around, he is terrified that his “ass crack is showing.”

And the new Leo, it turns out, is also a nerd. He is never without a book in his hand, say his colleagues, or a piece of music on his mind, or a movie he wants to share. He’s so obsessed about delivering a performance he feels happy with that he is constantly watching the dailies, says Remember Me director Allen Coulter. “He’s religious about it.”

“There’s every reason for a young actor to phone it in on a franchise where the first movie has done incredibly well,” says New Moon director Chris Weitz. “But he and Kristen take it really, really seriously and don’t want to phone it in. They want to find some way to make these characters believable, credible to themselves and to the audience.”

None of this would have happened to Pattinson had it not been for Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight saga, the young-adult blockbuster, the four books of which have sold 70 million copies and been translated into 45 languages.
In case you’ve been living in a remote forest, the series tells the story of Bella Swan, a shy newcomer to the town of Forks, Washington, who falls in love with Edward Cullen, a vampire since 1918, when he was bitten, who will be 17 years old for eternity. Though they are hopelessly in love, if they were to really fool around, Edward would lose control and bite her, turning Bella into a vampire as well—all of which puts the two in a permanent state of unquenchable lust, not to mention abstinence. This doubtless plays well with parents and bluenoses, like the author’s fellow Mormons. In fact, the whole setup could be seen as a metaphor for hanging on to your virginity.

Still, no other writer in recent memory has quite tapped into female adolescent yearning and girlhood fantasies about being desired. Edward is the perfect hero: charming, cultured, dangerous, and “the most beautiful creature who has ever been born.” Girls fall so hard for him that even at Meyer’s readings—well before any Twilight movie had been made—they shrieked upon hearing the author simply utter his name: “That was the first night I dreamed of Edward Cullen.”

Unlike Edward’s past, which is full of magic and mystery, Pattinson’s, the actor insists, was so unremarkable that he can barely remember a thing. He grew up in Barnes, in southwest London. His father had a car-importing business; his mother worked at a modeling agency. They weren’t stage parents, but they’ve since become way too into the minutiae of his fame, he says. His mother will frequently call to weigh in on pictures of him in the media: “‘I like that new shirt you’re wearing!’ ‘Uh, thanks.’” They couldn’t help but notice they had a good-looking kid on their hands, and briefly got him into modeling. “I was such a terrible model,” he says. “I was really tall but still looked like a six-year-old.”

If there was a creative streak in his family it was for music. Sister Lizzy, a singer, got a recording contract at age 17. Pattinson took up piano as a young boy and started playing guitar at age 15. He fell in love with the music of James Brown, Wilson Pickett, and Van Morrison. But he wasn’t one of those kids always performing for family members and visitors. “I think I liked being by myself quite a bit,” he says. He attended an all-boys school until age 12 and pretty much didn’t speak to any girls until he entered the exclusive (and expensive) Harrodian School, for high school. As his father pointed out, the really cute girls were going to this little local drama club called the Barnes Theatre Club.

It sparked in Pattinson some genuine excitement for acting, particularly when he got to play Alec—“who’s just a vile bastard,” he says—in a theatrical adaptation of Tess of the d’Urbervilles. The role was the first in a line of out-there characters—or “weirdos,” as Pattinson would say—that the actor has made something of a specialty. When you play a weirdo, he explains, “you can always have an excuse.…He’s a weirdo!” The play also got Pattinson an agent and landed him the role of Reese Witherspoon’s son in Mira Nair’s adaptation of Vanity Fair.

“[Tom Sturridge] and I … we had scenes right next to each other and it was both our first jobs.… We went to the screening, and we thought the whole thing was such a joke anyway, because we had no idea what we were doing. We were, like, ‘acting’ or whatever—we had no idea—and we watched [Tom’s] scene and were like, ‘Yeah, that’s pretty good, that’s all right.’” When it came to Pattinson’s scene, it was no longer there. “I’m sitting there going, ‘Ummm … really?’ No one had told me that I had been cut out.”
As Pattinson tells it, the casting director felt so guilty that she hadn’t informed him that she brought him in for another movie she was casting, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. He met with director Mike Newell for 30 minutes and for no good reason, Pattinson says now, he was completely confident and went around telling everyone that he had gotten the part of Cedric Diggory, the golden boy of Hogwarts—which it turns out he had.

With a tidy sum of money from Harry Potter, Pattinson eventually moved out of his parents’ house and was cast as a weirdo in a serious play, The Woman Before, in London’s West End. Forsaking college, he was now officially pursuing a career as an actor.

Unfortunately, he was replaced before opening night. “I thought I was doing something interesting, and I ended up getting fired for it,” Pattinson recalls with a sigh. “I think I just got confused, doing random mannerisms, as if that made an interesting performance. [I thought], It’s cool if you go like this,” he says, suddenly contorting his body into a nonsensical pose. Pattinson went through a period of denial after his failure. “I was going to all these auditions and telling everyone how I got fired because I stood up for my principles, and making up all this bullshit.… I kind of went nuts for a while.” He couldn’t land another job, stopped talking to his agent, and threw in the towel, opting to take his music seriously, as all of his friends were now doing. He began performing with a guitar in bars, either solo or with a couple of friends. It was a scene, he recalls a little ruefully, in which “no one gave a shit when you got up onstage.”

Yet as soon as he decided to put acting behind him, another role came his way and changed his mind again: a BBC thriller called The Haunted Airman, in which Pattinson got to be in a wheelchair and act like, yes, “a weirdo. I just changed my whole opinion about everything.” He then played two more weirdos back-to-back—first, eccentric Surrealist painter Salvador Dalí in the rather arch Little Ashes, about the romance between Dalí and poet Federico García Lorca; next, in a winning little comedy called How to Be, about a direction-less, spastic musician so in need of assistance that he pays a self-help guru to move in with him. He was starting to take his eccentric characters a little more seriously in both cases, feeling his way, as he had no real dramatic training.

How to Be director Oliver Irving recalls that, in the casting of the film, Rob “had a uniqueness and unpretentiousness. A lot of people who had come from drama school … were trying to fit into a kind of dramatic mold. He was a lot more relaxed. Just kind of came and was willing to make a mistake and laugh at himself.” In one scene, in which his character is enraged at his parents and storms outside to kick trees and lampposts, Irving recalls, “he’d make his eyes water and get himself all worked up … slapping himself and doing everything he possibly could to make him feel ill,” while passersby wondered what the hell was the matter with this guy.

Neither film exactly catapulted Pattinson to stardom. In 2007 he learned that something called Twilight was being cast in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and London, and he made a tape with one of his apartment-mates to send to the casting directors. “It looked so ridiculous I didn’t even send it,” says Pattinson, who forgot all about it and returned to his music.

Meanwhile, back in Hollywood, the search for Edward wasn’t going so well. Bella was easy—Stewart was at the top of the list and immediately accepted the role. But after auditioning thousands of actors for Edward, director Catherine Hardwicke (Thirteen) still couldn’t find the one who met the right criteria: some work experience, otherworldly beauty, and enough depth to make it believable that this kid had been alive since 1901. “Tapes came in from all over, and a lot of guys looked really cute and handsome, but they almost looked like the dudes in my high school,” says Hardwicke. An executive at the studio, Summit Entertainment president of worldwide production Erik Feig, recalls saying to a colleague before going to lunch one day, “‘I know we’ve looked. I just feel there are a couple of rocks that we haven’t checked under.’ I said, ‘There have to be British actors that we don’t know about that are this guy, who can do a great American accent.’ I said, ‘Do me a favor. Go to IMDb and look at every young actor, from age 15 to 25, who was in Harry Potter or anything, even a tiny role, print out their headshots.’ I came back from lunch. She had all these pictures, and she said, as we were going through the pictures, ‘What about this guy?’ And I saw a picture of Cedric Diggory [the character Pattinson played in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire]. I said, ‘He’s great!’ … And the look that jumped out to me at that point, and I know it’s a silly adjective to use, he was Byronic.”

Hardwicke watched Pattinson’s few scenes in Harry Potter over and over and wasn’t entirely convinced. “I’m like, Maybe he could pull it off—who knows?” She called Pattinson’s agent, Stephanie Ritz, to arrange to see him in person. Ritz agreed to fly him out on his own dime and to have him sleep on her couch.

As for Pattinson, he had no idea what he was getting into. He had never read Twilight, and having been “getting drunk for a year,” he felt like a blob and dreaded having to take his shirt off, which the audition required of him. Given his sense that he had nothing to lose, Pattinson went into the audition, he says, “a little more brazen than I would have been in a normal audition.” Recalling one of the scenes he did with Stewart, on Hardwicke’s bed, in which he and Stewart have a passionate but aborted kiss, he says, “I was still in the mode thinking, I’ve got to make this really, really serious. This is not just a sexy thing.… I was slamming my head against the wall and kind of going nuts.” He was sure he had made a complete ass of himself. “I remember calling my parents [afterward] and saying, ‘That’s it. I’m not doing this anymore.’ And then hearing, ‘O.K., fine,’ which was not the answer I wanted to hear at all.”

He might not have felt it, but in those short minutes with Stewart, something had clicked. “When Kris did the scenes with the other three guys, it wasn’t happening,” recalls Hardwicke, who was filming on her digital camera. “But when we did it with Rob and Kristen, it wasn’t perfect, it was still raw and unformed … but you could see that they had this nervous attraction and this pull towards each other. You could see the chemistry, and Kristen was adamant, [saying], ‘I think he is by far the best.’”

But this being Hollywood, there were those at the studio who still had their doubts about Pattinson. “They called me up and they literally said, ‘Catherine, do you think you can make this guy look good?’” Hardwicke recalls. “So I said, ‘Here’s what I’m going to do. I’m going to get his hair back to a different color, do a different style. He would work with a trainer from now on. My cinematographer is great with lighting. He will study the cheekbones, and I promise you, we’ll make the guy look good.’”
Fans of Twilight—Twilighters, they’re called—were beside themselves with disappointment when they saw pictures of the future Edward Cullen, with unkempt hair and bushy eyebrows, dodging out of bars with his strange friends. “Disgusting!,” “Repulsive!” they pronounced on the Web sites. According to Hardwicke, Pattinson was rattled by the criticism. “I said to Rob, ‘Really, you shouldn’t be reading that stuff. Don’t even read it!’ He goes, ‘Well, my mother forwarded this one to me.’ The ‘Repulsive’ one.”

But the insults made Pattinson determined to bring something exceptional and surprising to Edward. He moved to Portland three months before the shoot and didn’t talk to anyone. Sometimes he wore yellow-brown contact lenses he had been given. “I was like, Yeah, I’m really going to get into it. And I went into this place to get a coffee, and the first thing this girl at the counter says is ‘Nice contacts,’ and I was just like, O.K., I’m not really feeling what I need to feel.”

The shoot got under way and had an impulsive, almost frenetic energy. Pattinson brought in books, films, and pieces of music that might spark some understanding of this character, who is 108 years old, has never found love, doesn’t want to harm people, and is therefore at war with his natural instincts. He and Stewart had endless conversations about what Bella and Edward meant to each other, to the point where they internalized those dynamics.

Shooting could get downright giddy. In the vampire fight scenes, for example, Pattinson would gamely sink his teeth into the grilled chicken or melted cheese that co-star Cam Gigandet had hidden under his collar, and sometimes he had to be restrained from re-using the food once it had fallen onto the floor and was covered in dirt or glass shards.

In the meantime, evenings were spent in Pattinson’s hotel room, with Pattinson “always drunk,” says Hardwicke, and playing the guitar while Stewart and the other cast members watched and sang along. Something personally intense was developing between the young co-stars. “What Rob and Kristen had is a multitude of feelings for each other. Complex feelings for each other,” says Hardwicke. “It was what we needed. Complex, intense fascination.” It’s very likely that their offscreen relationship mirrored their on-screen one: an intense attraction that couldn’t be realized. During the shoot, Stewart was with her long-term boyfriend, actor Michael Angarano.

The movie, which opened in November 2008, hit all the blockbuster marks, earning $70 million in its first three days. (It has since grossed almost $400 million.) Pattinson signed on to do the rest of the franchise for a reported $10 million. The movie cleaned up at the MTV Movie Awards, where Pattinson was mobbed by fans. The once “repulsive” barfly was now the world’s biggest dreamboat.

By the time New Moon, the second in the series, began filming, the frenzy had multiplied. Director Chris Weitz recalls the shoot in Montepulciano, Italy. “Every teenager who could get there from any part of Europe was there, and it was like The Birds,” he says. “You turn the corner and there would be one, two, three, four hundred teenagers standing there. It got to the point where the stand-ins were signing autographs.”

Pattinson was protected from the fans by a throng of beefy Italian bodyguards who formed a perimeter around him—theoretically, at least. At one point, during the middle of shooting in the main square, someone pushed a young woman in a wheelchair through the barrier, right up to Pattinson. The bodyguards didn’t know what to do—tackling a handicapped woman just didn’t seem attractive. Everyone stood there gaping in silence. “It was almost a medieval moment,” says Weitz. “There were a thousand extras and about a thousand onlookers, and it was as though someone had [been] wheeled up to be healed by the King of France.” Thinking little of it, Pattinson spoke with the girl for a few moments and had his picture taken with her. Suddenly the crowd burst into applause.

“Everyone was like, ‘Ahhhh!’” recalls Pattinson, afraid that he might have appeared grandiose. “It was one of the most embarrassing experiences of my life.” Though Pattinson was and remains gracious to his fans, he has no choice but to spend most of his time in his hotel room. “He was forced into becoming a hermit,” says Weitz. “When he can’t go out to buy a soda, it’s kind of a drag.” Kristen Stewart says that the frenzy she’s witnessed over Pattinson “would terrify me. I would probably resent the hell out of it and would probably do something crazy.”

The outside world became even more intrusive when he moved to New York this spring to start shooting Remember Me, which happened to feature another beautiful co-star, Emilie de Ravin, with whom he became friendly.

he’s a cheat!, his messy love life!, rang out the headlines on the covers of the tabloids all summer, which his fans gleefully asked him to sign. The story line was that Pattinson had “gotten cozy” with de Ravin, and that Stewart, who’d been stringing The Pattz along for all this time, was suddenly crazed with jealousy (in addition to being pregnant with his baby). In the run-up to Comic-Con, where Pattinson and Stewart would be re-united after months apart, Stewart was said to be busily picking out “sexy sundresses” and other great outfits so that “he won’t be able to take his eyes off of her.” (As it happened, she wore jeans, red sneakers, and a Minor Threat T-shirt the whole time.)

I can’t get out of my hotel room!’” Still, it’s hard to take it in stride when his parents tend to believe the tabloids more than they do him, and when random airport greeters ask him, with heartfelt sympathy, if he really feels up for being a father. (As for Stewart, she sounds significantly more fed up about the whole thing: “It’s so retarded. We’re characters in this comic book.”)

For the record, Pattinson insists that he and Stewart are really just “good friends” and that he deeply admires her. “I think she’s the best young actress around,” he says. (Given their ages, it’s very possible that their relationship status will have changed, and changed again, by the time you’re reading this.) Whatever the case, she’s clearly a kindred, low-key spirit. “She’s influenced how I’ve done all the Twilight stuff. It’s quite nice to have someone who is genuinely indifferent to the whole spectacle of everything.” Indeed, as they pose for picture after picture at Comic-Con, Stewart couldn’t look any cooler about the whole thing. She and Pattinson have mastered the not-touching thing. She even throws the crowd a few curveballs by over-flirting with muscle-bound Taylor Lautner.

With the third Twilight installment, Eclipse, now filming and the fourth to be filmed in the not so distant future—there’s only so long Pattinson, who is 23, can look 17—he is beginning to imagine life after the franchise. The idea of a huge-budget action movie—de rigueur for young actors today—holds zero appeal for him. “There’s no point. I mean, I don’t have any material desires at all. I wear the same clothes every single day. I don’t buy anything. And I don’t go out anymore, either!” All that he really wants is a home, so he can get a dog, since the West Highland white terrier he had since the age of five and “who was like my sister” died last Christmas. Instead, he’s choosing to do small-budget, slightly weirdo material: a Western directed by Madeleine Stowe, in which he will speak almost exclusively in Comanche, and an adaptation of a Guy de Maupassant novel, Bel-Ami, in which he plays a guy who “thinks like an animal” and “just rips off and screws over all of his friends.”

Even though Pattinson now has a Barbie action figure (one he thinks looks like Zac Efron), he’s starting to see the faintest hint that his teen-idol days may be on the wane—and that someone else might soon replace him. Since Twilight, when he played Gentle Indian Friend, 17-year-old Taylor Lautner has become markedly more carved and badass-looking. That’s because in New Moon he’s both a viable love option for Bella and a werewolf. By the end of Comic-Con, Taylor’s new physique is all that anyone can talk about, and girls are shouting from their seats, “Take off your shirt!” Lautner seems born for this role. With a dazzling-white smile, he delivers polished, borderline-canned lines to roaring applause. “I worked really hard to transform Jacob’s body so I could portray him correctly for you guys. I hope you guys are pleased when you see the results!”

And now Pattinson is hawking his co-star like a desperate agent. “I don’t know where he got it,” he gushes of Lautner’s charm and knack for connecting with the fans. “He’s much better at doing it [than I am].… He’s completely handling it. I’m just freaking out all the time. I’m going to end up hitting people and stuff and looking like an idiot.” Someone else can be Leo. Pattinson will be Hugh Grant.

(CNN) -- Robert Pattinson would like to set the record straight, once and for all, on any supposed romantic link between him and his "Twilight" co-star Kristen Stewart.

They are really just "good friends," Pattinson said in a recent interview with Vanity Fair, but that's it -- and he finds rumors to the contrary frustrating.

"It doesn't make any difference what you say [to the tabloids]," said Pattinson. "I've literally been across the country [from Kristen], and it's like 'Oh, they were on secret dates!' It's like 'Where? I can't get out of my hotel room!' "

Stewart told the magazine she also finds the stories about the two of them infuriating.

"We're characters in this comic book," she said.

Still, "Twilight" director Catherine Hardwicke told the magazine that the two actors shared an unmistakable chemistry on set.

"What Rob and Kristen had is a multitude of feelings for each other," said Hardwicke. "Complex feelings for each other. It was what we needed. Complex, intense fascination."

In the Vanity Fair interview, to appear in the magazine's December issue, Pattinson talked about his relationship with Stewart, as well as reservations he had early on in his acting career. The second movie in the series about teen vampires and forbidden love, "The Twilight Saga: New Moon," comes out November 20.

Pattinson said there was a point before "Twilight" where he almost gave up on acting completely.

"I was going to all these auditions and telling everyone how I got fired [from a play in London's West End] because I stood up for my principles. ... I kind of went nuts for a while," said Pattinson.

He couldn't land another job, stopped talking to his agent, and began performing with a guitar in bars.

But after receiving a role in a BBC thriller called "The Haunted Airman," in which Pattinson appeared in a wheelchair and got to act like "a weirdo," his outlook changed. "I just changed my whole opinion about everything," he said, noting he was more willing to go for broke.

Although it may seem now that Pattinson was born to play Edward Cullen, the brooding lead vampire in the movie franchise, director Hardwicke said the studio had doubts about casting him in the lead role.

"They called me up and they literally said, 'Catherine, do you think you can make this guy look good?' " the director told Vanity Fair contributing editor Evgenia Peretz.

"So I said, 'Here's what I'm going to do. I'm going to get his hair back to a different color, do a different style. He would work with a trainer from now on. My cinematographer is great with lighting. He will study the cheekbones, and I promise you, we'll make the guy look good.' "

It's November, which means that tweens, teens, and millions of moms are gearing up for the release of The Twilight Saga: New Moon. The film, the second installment in the Twilight phenomenom, is set to hit theaters on November 20 and the publicity blitz has officially commenced: Robert Pattinson is on the cover of the latest issue of Vanity Fair, gazing at the camera in his typically sexy fashion. Can it get any better? Yes, if you read the interview. In it, fans get a glimpse into Pattinson's hotel room living style (think hard partying rocker) and also an answer about his relationship with rumored love and costar, Kristen Stewart (denials, of course).

Interviewed by Evgenia Peretz, Pattinson clearly attempts to dispel any illusion that he is Edward Cullen, although he does it without saying so directly. He falls back on his self-depracating humor and points out his flaws ("One of his legs is longer than the other, which he claims makes him look like 'an idiot.'"). He thinks he looks like a "cartoon character," a thought that his fans would surely dismiss, unless he was refering to Adonis.

One surprising revelation that comes out in the interview is that Pattinson is apparently quite the slob. Based on the description of his hotel room, it sounds like Pattinson is a rocker with a partying streak who enjoys trashing suites (which we know is not the case!). According to Peretz, his room at the Hard Rock Hotel in San Diego is "littered today with beer bottles, old scrambled eggs, a half-eaten Twix bar, and a dirty pair of jeans on the living-room floor." Pattinson notices the mess and apologizes, claiming that he is usually self-conscious about such matters.

Robert Pattinson took off from Vancouver earlier today and arrived at LAX just a few short hours later. Lucky us, he even took his sunglasses off this time. His travel buddy Kristen Stewart wasn't spotted leaving the airport with him, but it's no surprise since the two are experts at not being seen side by side. New Moon promotion is just around the corner but for now, it's still a treat to see Robert looking all kinds of sexy all by himself.

Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson Seen Leaving Vancouver Separately

It seems that rumored lovers Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson really want to avoid paparazzi. On Thursday, October 29, both of them were seen keeping their shades on when arriving at Vancouver International Airport to catch a flight to Los Angeles.

OK! Magazine reports the twosome wrapped the filming of their upcoming vampire
drama movie "The Twilight Saga's Eclipse" at about 4:30 A.M. At that time, they shot their last scene at the Canadian Motion Picture Park in Burnaby, British Columbia.

Soon after that, they got back to their hotel at the Sheraton and traveled to the airport in separate chauffeured cars provided by the film. When the "Twilight" stars arrived at the airport five minutes apart, police had to do double duty as each star was given their own escort to the gate. "This is not a pair that want to be seen together, that's for sure," an eyewitness tells OK! Magazine about the on-screen lovers, who both opted to don dark shades and hoodie sweatshirts.

In related news, David Slade, the director of "The Twilight Saga's Eclipse" has announced that the filming has officially been wrapped. Taking to his Twitter page on Thursday, October 29, he wrote, "Twilight Eclipse officially wrapped shooting, at 4.30 am October 29th. Physically and emotionally exhausted. DAVID S."

He's bigger than Ben-Hur at the moment, if you believe all the hype. Yet to come face-to-face with Robert Pattinson is to meet a serious artist, a multi-talented individual who could as easily have been a classical or funky musician as a movie star.

The Twilight juggernaut is propelling the 23-year-old British actor to the heights of mega stardom and, having previously only played minor roles, most notably as Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, he is making the most of it.

The small independent movie, Remember Me, was able to go ahead as the result of his casting and Pattinson is now in Unbound Captives, a western set in 1859, where the world's sexiest youngster gets to act alongside the "Sexiest Man Alive", Hugh Jackman.

"The Twilight fans are so devoted, even fanatical, that I'm now able to do so many films," Pattinson says. "The economy is just so bad at the moment. I don't care if they think I'm right for the part or not. I can get their movie made, which is great."

The trim actor says what has happened to him has been "pure luck." After all, handsome Henry Cavill, who made a dashing impression in TV's The Tudors as Henry's friend, the Duke of Suffolk, had been Twilight author Stephanie Meyer's original choice to play Edward Cullen, the lovelorn vampire who falls in love with the human Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart).

But Cavill was too old by the time the blockbuster movie went ahead and Pattinson won the role instead. "I never set out to achieve anything, certainly not fame like this," he admits. "I still have to deal with how to actually make my life work."

The obvious comparison regarding his ascent to stardom is with Daniel Radcliffe who, even if he gets his gear off on stage, will forever be known as Harry Potter. Like his fellow Briton, Pattinson has gone against the puerile grain of Twilight to appear in gay sex scenes for his portrayal of the Spanish painter Salvador Dali in Little Ashes.

Pattinson hopes his Twilight role will leave him without the typecasting that Radcliffe will surely face. "I worked on Harry Potter for 11 months and I couldn't imagine doing that for all those years. I don't know how those guys have stayed sane. I would go completely crazy, hardly being able to do anything else for so long."

Pattinson was contracted to do the four Twilight movies and once Eclipse wraps up in Vancouver, only Breaking Dawn remains to be filmed. "They were all filmed quickly and painlessly," he says.

The much-anticipated second instalment, The Twilight Saga: New Moon, is in cinemas next month. In the flesh, Pattinson only vaguely resembles Edward Cullen because he is far from being a tortured soul himself. A lot of the image is created through posturing, make-up and that mop of tousled hair. "I wear contact lenses for the character and in the first movie I wore a bit of lipstick but in New Moon I don't. They've changed my look in this one. I don't pluck my eyebrows so much in this one, either."

Is he wearing make-up today? "Naaa," he replies disdainfully, and seems pleased that New Moon is aimed more towards males. "This was always my favourite book. New Moon will be a lot more relatable for guys, whereas it was quite difficult for me to express all those emotions in Twilight. I think it's difficult for guys to accept those kind of emotions."

Given that expectations are running so high, he approached reprising the role with trepidation. "I was really worried I wouldn't know how to do it again, but I have a natural chemistry going on with Kristen and doing the sequel was so easy. She always says she pretty much got me the part, but I don't really believe her," he says with a smile.

Pattinson also could relax because he has a smaller role in New Moon. This time werewolf Jacob (Taylor Lautner) takes centre stage. In the third movie Eclipse, the two have to jostle over who wins Bella's heart – if she still has one by then.

Pattinson seems the most unlikely heart-throb material as he really has grungy tastes and disdain for the high life. But, while he maintains he doesn't like fast cars (his father used to sell them) and that he is single, he was photographed driving a Porsche leaving his co-star Kristen Stewart's house. Maybe they were learning their lines or it could even be a set-up. It wouldn't be the first relationship created to sell a movie.

Though the idea of his being single seems all the more likely given that he probably hasn't any energy for a relationship. (Twilight cast member, Anna Kendrick, confirmed his single status in an interview last month.) Pattinson has so little time to do anything but work. "I'm working almost every day this year," he confirms.

"I had three days off between Remember Me and Eclipse and then I've had to start learning Comanche and bareback riding for Unbound Captives. I don't only want to do the same part. I'm doing Bel Ami, based on the Guy de Maupassant novel in January as well, and I don't really know how I'm going to fit that in. I have to gain weight – but I don't think they'll let me put on much as I have to shoot the final Twilight movie afterwards. I have to look older, as the character Georges Duroy has been living hard for a good six years just getting drunk all the time. So I want to look a bit haggard."

While he says that in Remember Me he is basically playing himself, Georges Duroy probably is also closer to his own reality. Currently Pattinson lives out of three suitcases. "I live in hotel rooms," he admits. He had a grungy rented flat in London's Soho but let it go when it essentially became a crash pad for his buddies.

The young London-born star has kept his close friends close, and his family, too. "The fame thing's been good for one thing. My friends I grew up with are musicians and they were involved with a few songs on the Twilight soundtrack and it's amazing what's happened to them. They're doing tours of America and they're selling out every single show. My friend Sam Bradley did a show at the Whisky A Go Go in Los Angeles and it sold out quicker on telephone presales than any show that's been there. Sam's unsigned [to a record deal] and there was no advertising, nothing. It's insane what you can do just by that connection."

Pattinson, who composes and sings, performed two songs for the Twilight soundtrack. He has been playing the piano since he was 5. Raised with two elder sisters – Lizzy, a musician, who's in the band Aurora; and Victoria, who's in advertising – Pattinson grew up in comfortable family surrounds.

His mother, Clare, used to work in a modelling agency, but it was his father Richard who suggested he become involved with amateur productions at Barnes Theatre Company. "That was only because he saw a bunch of pretty girls who were going there, and he said: 'Hey Rob, you've got to go do that.'"

Pattinson's parents are now both retired and live vicariously through their son's fame. "It's funny; I think they expect me to be reacting differently. They think it's more impressive than I think it is. Ultimately everyone in my life knows what's real – apart from my mother, who seems to believe every negative thing that's written about me."

Such as? "Oh, it was about sleeping with people and swearing and I wasn't even in the city at the time. She's like, 'No, I don't believe you; I bet you did say that.' She believes a gossip magazine over her own son. "My sister Lizzy just finds it bizarre. She was in America in May and sent me a text saying, 'It's ridiculous how famous you are!' It's weird, the mags print stuff every week even if I don't do anything."

Initially the fanaticism was stronger in the US, he says. "I came back to the UK at Christmas and was mostly left alone. Now it's everywhere," he shudders, laughing. "I keep waiting for the day when I wake up and I'm just an asshole to everybody."

The security is so tight around Pattinson now that he leads his life in a kind of bubble. "I'm usually half-carried in and out of buildings by bodyguards," he says. "It was driving me a little bit nuts at first, but you just learn to deal with it. If you keep being negative, if you keep saying, 'I hate this, I hate this' then you'd go crazy."

If only he could come up with an answer to the burning press pack question: "What does he look for in a girl?"

"Errr, money," he replies, "and an unbelievable amount of patience." Is it true that famous women try to hit on him? "That's all bullshit. Maybe I don't even realise that they're doing it ..."

He says he doesn't have a perfect girl, though admits, "she would have to be down-to-earth." So is there a celebrity he's adored? "Um," he stutters, struggling for an answer to yet another trite question. "I like Patricia Arquette in True Romance. She was always my pin-up. I like Linda Blair [from The Exorcist] as well."

Although his part in New Moon may be smaller than fans were hoping for, there's no doubt Robert Pattinson is in the driving seat of the Twilight phenomenon, and standing on the edge of global superstardom.

A year on from our last date, we sat down with the actor on the eve of the release of the Twilight sequel New Moon, to discuss fame, mothers and all things Twilight.

How was it reuniting with Kristen Stewart for New Moon?

"There’s a natural chemistry going on with Kristen. Even doing this sequel, it’s so easy…

I was really worried that I wouldn’t know how to do it again, but it’s so easy to play off her.

She always says that she pretty much got me the part – though I don’t really believe her!"

What sort of arc does Edward go through this time?

"He’s always talking in the first one. “I need to make the right decision. I need to do stuff for you, for you, for you.” And he makes a decisive move, which is to leave her, and he completely believes it’s for her own good.

But in his heart, he obviously realises it’s completely wrong. And it takes him the whole movie to realise the profundity of his mistake. So that’s what his arc his.

The world forces him to realise he needs to be with Bella, and there’s no way around it"

So New Moon takes a similar serious approach to teen love as Twilight?

"I think no one really knew what we were working with when Twilight happened.

And because of the in-roads we made in saying it’s not going to be a typical teen film or a sappy love story, it does allow us in the second one to have a certain degree of seriousness. Even more so."

Chris Weitz is your new director on New Moon. How has that been?

"I really love Chris. Not only is he a good director, he’s a great guy. God, I sound like such an arse-kisser! But he actually is.

He didn’t really try and change anything. He saw what me and Kristen were doing and worked within the realms of that."

Do you feel trapped in a Twilight box?

"Not really. I guess I have no choice right now – because I’m contracted to do them. But they’re all going to be done quite quick.

I’ll have done three of the four by October of this year, then I’ll only have one more to do."

The obvious comparison is Harry Potter… Do you think this is easier to make though?

"I guess it is. The Harry Potter I worked on was an 11 month shoot. I couldn’t be doing that.

I don’t know how those guys stayed sane – they’ve been doing it for 10 years. I would go completely crazy"

Have you talked to Daniel Radcliffe about this sudden fame?

"I haven’t talked to him in a while. I guess you try and stay Zen about it. You have to just learn to accept it.

I guess the whole thing is, you don’t want to wake up one day and realise you’ve turned into someone who you weren’t before and it wasn’t your choice.

That’s the only scary thing. It’s always really up to you. Most of the time, you can control it to a degree."

What are the positives?

"Some of my friends who I grew up with are musicians and they’re involved with the Twilight soundtrack. It’s amazing what’s happened to them.

They’re doing tours of America and selling out every single show. It’s insane what you can do with that connection.

The Twilight fans are like… I don’t even think ‘devoted’ is the right word. They’re fanatical."

It must be hard to deal with…

"It is, kind of. But you just learn to deal with it. There’s no point in being negative. If you keep going, “I hate this, I hate this”, you can’t stop it.

I was always trying to hide at the beginning of the year, but I have nothing to hide anyway!"

Do you get stopped everywhere now?

"Yeah. In weird little places… I went up to Yorkshire and I was walking down a street in Guisborough and there was one person on the street.

I looked up for one second and they said, “Hey, can I get a photo of you?” How can you have immediate recognition in Guisborough? That was very strange!"

What about all this stuff on the internet, all the gossip about you…

"I don’t really care. Everybody in my life knows what’s real and what isn’t. Apart from my mother, who seems to believe every negative thing that’s written about me!

She’s like, “I can’t believe you did this!” I’m like, “I didn’t!” And she’s like, “Yes, you did, I know you did!""

What did your mum tick you off about?

"It was about swearing! I said, “I wasn’t even in the city” and she was, “I bet you did say that!”

She’ll literally believe a gossip magazine over her own son."

Robert Pattinson Set to Be Guest in 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show'

Robert Pattinson is going to appear in small screen. According to Gossip Cop, "a highly, highly placed source" has confirmed that the "Twilight" hunk is going to be a guest in an episode of "The Ellen DeGeneres Show", which will be aired on November 20, the same day when his upcoming film "The Twilight Saga's New Moon" will be premiered in U.S. theaters. However, an interview with the show's host Ellen DeGeneres will be taped on November 17.

Beside set to make an appearance in "The Ellen DeGeneres Show", Robert Pattinson has been expected to appear in another TV show. Seth Meyers, the head writer of "Saturday Night Live", has stated that he would love to see the British star becoming the host of the hit NBC show's upcoming season. "We would love to get Robert Pattinson," he said, claiming his involvement is going to be "the power" of the show.

In related news, Robert Pattinson will grace the latest issue of USA WEEKEND magazine, which will hit newsstands on October 25. In an article of the publication, Chris Weitz, the director of "The Twilight Saga's New Moon", admitted that the actor always attracts teenage girls in the flocks. "It's like The Birds, with teenage girls. You turn around, and there would be a line of girls standing there," he told USA WEEKEND.

Robert Pattinson: Interview With a Vampire

Ask Robert Pattinson how he's handling the global hysteria that now surrounds him and he says: "All right, I hope." Then he runs his hand through that tousled mop of his (a sign that he's anxious) and adds: "It's still sort of new."

It's almost 12 months since the first Twilight film was unleashed on the world. Twelve months since we clapped eyes on the sensitive, tortured and fiercely handsome vampire named Edward Cullen from Stephenie Meyer's massively popular novels. Twelve months since Pattinson, the 23-year-old British actor who plays the red-blooded teenage vamp, became an international heart-throb.

One minute he has a bit part in two Harry Potter films (he played Cedric Diggory in The Goblet of Fire and The Order of the Phoenix). The next he's the object of every teenage girl's affections. They're screaming right now outside his hotel room. He's in France to promote The Twilight Saga: New Moon , the follow-up to Twilight (there are four novels in all). Whenever he goes near the window to smoke, a crescendo of noise erupts from the street below.

"To be honest, I still don't really understand what's going on," he says. "Like yesterday, I was having lunch down the road. We were in this place for a couple of hours and suddenly there was like 400 people outside on the street. It was just so nuts and it's like that all the time now."

If Pattinson hasn't come to grips with the global hysteria by now, how will he cope when New Moon is released next month?

"When the second one comes out, then I'll see how I am. Mostly I can ignore things to quite a big extent and kind of pretend they're not really happening," he says, sounding eerily calm.

"I just don't take any of it seriously. It's just a job and while it's a job I love, girls scream out for Edward, not Robert. I still can't get a date."

Pattinson has been peddling this line for months. He won't fess up to dating Twilight co-star Kristen Stewart, who plays Bella. Perhaps he's under studio instructions to appear single? It probably boosts ticket sales.

The real reason Pattinson is so calm is simple: "I'm not the lead in the second film. Taylor [Lautner] is." He grins idiotically. "I appear in Bella's dreams. So I'm in it but the focus is not on me. I just have significant moments at the beginning ... and the end. So I'm more of a supporting role in this one, which is why I felt so free. I didn't have to deal with any of the bullshit of the first one. I don't have to hold the movie or worry about the fans. I think I did it better without all those pressures."

Pattinson is extraordinarily beautiful. He's been called the Johnny Depp of his generation and been crowned Sexiest Man on the Planet by Glamour magazine, Top Hunk by Entertainment Tonight and Hottest Actor by Rolling Stone.

Like Depp, he has the same asymmetrical beauty, the same gorgeous man-boy face. He's 185 centimetres tall, lean and he, too, exudes a masculine femininity. Depp also started out as a teenage idol before he began furiously deconstructing that image. Ditto for Pattinson.

"After Harry Potter I could have done a lot more teen movies," he says.

Instead he starred as a young Salvador Dali who has a bromance with poet Federico Garcia Lorca in this year's Little Ashes.

"I had to do all these hardcore gay sex scenes, when I haven't even had a sex scene with a girl in a film yet," he laughs.

"I'm lining up so many different films so it'll be harder to just label me the vampire guy."

Those include Remember Me, with Aussie beauty Emilie de Ravin from Lost, and Unbound Captives, a western set in 1859, which stars Hugh Jackman � but more on that later.

Before Twilight, Pattinson was on the verge of quitting the acting game in favour of music. "With acting, a lot of the time you're doing scenes you don't really relate to and you don't really know why you're being cast half the time," he laughs. He "understood" music. He's been playing the piano since he was five. He composes and sings. It's second nature. Acting isn't. He still feels "awkward in front of a camera".

Pattinson has a lovely voice and performed two songs in Twilight � something he now regrets. "When the first film came out I felt like a complete tosser," he says. "It looked like I was trying to be cool or something, like Eminem. You know, be in a movie and then do a song for the soundtrack. But I didn't look cool, I just looked ridiculous."

Pattinson's lack of self-confidence is staggering yet endearing. Compliment his singing and he'll change the subject. Compliment his performance and he'll tell you you're bonkers. But he'll stick to acting for now only because he'd "starve to death" as a musician.

Pattinson has two older sisters � Lizzy, a musician, who's in the band Aurora; and Victoria, who's in advertising. His father imported classic cars and his mother worked for a modelling agency. It was his father who encouraged him to pursue acting (to meet girls). So he modelled, did some amateur theatre and British television.

But now he has to go. A plane is waiting. He yawns and looks tired. So how does he unwind?

"I don't really need to do stuff to relax or get away because all my interests are part of my job," he says. "Like I'll watch movies to be inspired to do other movies. I read books to be inspired. I listen to music to be inspired to write music. Everything I do is to create something."

Pattinson's next film is Unbound Captives. He met Jackman in Japan recently for a little bonding ahead of the film. "We went karaoke singing," he laughs. "We were singing Abba songs, it was pretty funny. It was sort of an Abba song sing-off, you know, last man standing."

Who won? "I think he did, only because he can drink more than me and still sing in tune. He's a cool guy and I'm really looking forward to that film."

So are we. The Sexiest Man Alive meets the Sexiest Man on the Planet � now that should be interesting.

The Twilight Saga: New Moon opens on November 19.

Pattinson chain-smokes during the interview. About halfway through, he runs out of cigarettes. He decides to pop out into the hallway to see whether he can "bum" one from a passing hotel guest. When the French hotel staff, who are normally cool, calm and collected, lay eyes on him, they turn into an adoring mass of autograph-seeking fans. Pattinson has to make a quick dash back to the safety of the room. He's clearly unnerved by the run-in.

U.K. distributor Revolver has landed the rights to Robsessed, a feature-length doc on the Twilight hottie, according to ScreenDaily.com. The company is currently in France hawking the flick and plans to release it on DVD in the U.S. and U.K. next month, just in time for New Moon's Nov. 20 bow.

"Teenagers just can't get enough of Robert Pattinson and this broadcast-quality biography is guaranteed to deliver, whether on TV or home entertainment," chief executive Justin Marciano said.

Fame Hype: Robert Pattinson vs. The Top 10 Actors Of All Time (Part 2)

To recap, in my recent article on Robert Pattinson and the "enduring appeal of pale, white dudes," a gaggle of fans of the movie "Twilight" took umbrage to some things I said about their beloved idol.

Most of the reactions was pretty inane, along the lines of:

"Hey you ugly, loser, geek, doodyheaded, nincompoop - you WISH you were as HOT as our boy Pattinson, you're just a jealous smelly mongrel...DIE DIE DIEl!!!"

These remarks I merely brushed off as so much hot, fetid air expelled from a bunch of sub-mental moronic twits. There was one comment, however, that sparked my interest: an avid fan asked what MY idea of a great actor was. I thought it was a fair question, and deserved a well thought out response. Moreover, I felt it was a good opportunity to add weight to my opinions on Pattinson's meager abilities as a thespian and perhaps give a little history lesson to the uneducated reader who might not be familiar with the TRUE giants of the industry.

So, as a follow up to my first post on the Greats, from 10-6, here are my Top Five Greatest Actors of All Time:

5) Jack Lemmon AND Warren Oates (a TIE)

Both of these actors absolutely needed to be included on this list and as there are only ten slots, I had to call a tie for fifth place.

4) Marlon Brando

3) Humphrey Bogart

2) Jack Nicholson

1) James Stewart

So there you have it, the top ten greatest actors of all time!

Now some of you may argue that Robert Pattinson is still young, and that it's unfair to compare his work with these legends. I however disagree. I was asked my opinion as to what I considered to be great acting and these actors are it. Moreover, hearing so many of you go on about Pattinson's "brilliance," literally began to turn my stomach. It wasn't so much that I hate Pattinson, I just hate what we've become as a society when it comes to our art and culture. We are worshipping at the altar of mediocrity!

For those that say Pattinson "could yet still develop," I say "no." You see, even at the start of their careers all of the actors I've mentioned in my articles shared that undeniable something which I refer to as "the goods." Pattinson just doesn't have it. He's merely a colorless hack with a slight physical appeal. I don't say this to be cruel, it's just the truth. I guess in writing these articles I'm attempting to shine a spotlight on what we value nowadays as a society. Has respect for actual talent gone completely out the window? Will we keep culturally devolving until someday, someone taking a dump on national TV for an hour will pass as an evening's worth of entertainment? I surely hope not...I surely hope not.

'Twilight' series screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg says 'Breaking Dawn' is still up in the air

In hopes that The Twilight Saga: New Moon and The Twilight Saga: Eclipse will be followed up by The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, readers of this column have been wedding dress shopping for Bella, pushing for Chris Weitz to come back as the director for the film, hanging onto Boo Boo Stewart's suggestion that it might be made into two films, gauging potential Renesmees for the film(s), and enjoying fan-made Breaking Dawn film posters to boot.

Screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg, however, has stated to E! Online that whether or not Breaking Dawn will be made into film is still "up in the air" at this time. While she did say that a conversation about the potential film is being had by her and, presumably, film studio Summit Entertainment, there has been no official decision.

All hope is not lost, though, for the project - at all. In fact, you might recall Peter Facinelli's words about the project - words which, in essence, show the pragmatic approach taken by Summit in deciding whether the film will make it to cinematic fruition. Whether Twilight fans are still on board with their pocketbooks to support the project and make it a financially viable option is probably a key factor in the decision. Chances are, New Moon's box office showing will do the trick.

So, until then, you know the drill. Nothing is official until it is official - meaning, fans should await an announcement from Summit before jumping to one conclusion or the other about The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn.

Robert Pattinson Possessed By Michael Jackson?

According to Kristin Stewart, co-star Robert Pattinson has began acting very strange of late.

"At first, I thought Rob was just screwing around, something he always enjoys, and singing some of Michael Jackson's songs. I mean Michael was great and I'm sure he's on a lot of people's minds and so are his songs. But this is something different."

"For one thing, Ive caught him moon walking. "Hey", I said, "Are you going to be doing that in New Moon? I was just kidding, but instead of answering, he just kept on dancing."

Others on the set say that Pattinson has began looking at himself in a mirror a lot and twisting his nose first one way and then another.

Still others say that when he does those Michael songs, he does them in a real high voice. "Robert has a good singing voice and performs well with a guitar but not in that tone."

Robert Pattinson to Attend the MTV Video Music Awards

Get your Tivos ready, Robert Pattinson fans. The 23-year-old Twilight star will be making a cameo at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards.

Pattinson will be appearing alongside fellow co-stars from the franchise, including Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner.

Fans can look forward to seeing more exclusive clips from Pattinson's upcoming film, the Twilight Saga: New Moon. According to MTV, Death Cab for Cutie will also debut their song, Meet Me on the Equinox, which appears on the Twilight Saga: New Moon soundtrack.

The VMAs are sure to be exciting for all viewers. Russell Brand is scheduled to host the show. There will be musical performances from Muse, Pink, Green Day and more! Fans can also see a multitude of well-known presenters, including Gossip Girl's Leighton Meester, Katy Perry, and Nelly Furtado to name a few.

The VMAs will air Sunday, September 13, 2009, live on MTV at 9PM EST.

Robert Pattinson hits the cover of French 'Premier' magazine

Robert Pattinson is back for your viewing enjoyment.

The 23-year-old Twilight star is featured on the cover of the September issue of French version of Premiere magazine. Pattinson is shown wearing a Batman t-shirt and a worn-in leather jacket, both items that fans would find typical of his usual wardrobe.

Pattinson did an interview with the magazine, where he discussed many topics, including his thoughts on being a superstar:

"I was in a restaurant during a break at Cannes, and when I came out two hours later, 500 people were waiting for me at the exit. They literally had to carry me to the car."

Pattinson also told the magazine how he is handling his newfound fame:

"Might as well try to accept it and stay Zen as I have no control over it. I'm a pretty prude person, therefore it's not always easy. But whining won't change anything."

A couple of interesting pieces of news about The Twilight Saga: New Moon's soundtrack have just been announced.

From Stephenie Meyer's website, the official cover for the soundtrack has been revealed, as well as the first single for the album, and a new release date.

The first single has officially been confirmed for the New Moon Soundtrack! Death Cab for Cutie has written an exclusive song for the movie entitled 'Meet Me On the Equinox.' Below is a statement from the band about the song:

"We are very excited to be a part of this amazing series of novels set in our own backyard. It just seemed a perfect synergy that a band from the Northwest would create a song for a series of novels set in the Northwest. We wrote 'Meet Me On the Equinox' to reflect the celestial themes and motifs that run throughout the Twilight series and we wanted to capture that desperate feeling of endings and beginnings that so strongly affect the main characters. DCFC bassist Nick Harmer talks about 'Meet Me on the Equinox,' to premiere on Video Music Awards day.

In an exclusive interview with MTV News, DCFC bassist Nick Harmer talked about the song — which will be the lead single from the second film in the "Twilight" series — and the mysterious way it ended up on the most-anticipated soundtrack of the year.

"We didn't expect it would be chosen for the first single — we were thinking it would be a part of the soundtrack, maybe," Harmer laughed. "I have no idea if ['Twilight' author] Stephenie Meyer approved it or what. It's been an exciting process, because we've been so removed from it. We were in L.A. for a week and we went into the studio and wrote and recorded the song and submitted it. We didn't know where anything stood, and then we just got a call last week like, 'Guess what — your song has been chosen as the first single.' "

Harmer is the first to admit that Death Cab and "Twilight" seem like an unusual pairing (only guitarist/producer Chris Walla has read the entire series), but upon closer inspection, they actually have plenty in common: most of which has to do with geography and, of course, matters of the heart.

"The big connection for us is 'Here's a wildly popular book series about vampires — which are awesome — set in the Northwest,' and we happen to be from the Northwest as well, so there's this sort of hometown pride kind of thing going on," Harmer said. "I'm kind of happy that Stephenie Meyer put Forks, Washington, on the map for the entire globe.

"I think that a lot of our songs in general concern a lot of the things the main characters in the books are going through: There's a lot of stuff about relationships beginning and ending, and the questioning that happens around being in love and falling out of love," he continued. "That's a comfort zone for us, so a lot of the lyrical content [frontman] Ben [Gibbard] writes also happens to line up with what the characters are going through in the film. Basically the 'Twilight' series is about love, and that's a major theme for us. So, it wasn't difficult for us at all."

As for the song itself, Harmer describes it as "pretty dark and brooding, lyrically," and though it was written specifically for the "New Moon" film, don't expect it to vary much from the Death Cab formula.

"I'm pretty sure Ben didn't try to write a song from the perspective of one of the characters from the novel. The emotional stuff is what he homed in on, because that's what we do," he said. "It's an uptempo song ... it fits right into the Death Cab canon. The lyrics are darker and brooding, the music is a little more up. I don't know if it's a rock song ... when you hear it, you'll think, 'Yep, that's a Death Cab song.' "

Remember that tweet issued by The Twilight Saga: Eclipse director David Slade that had us talking?

Well, Lainey Gossip some information that might put our speculation to rest.

Slade’s Tweet referred to scenes between [Kristen Stewart] and [Robert Pattinson] that took place in the “meadow”. My source tell me that they talk about getting married, they roll around a little, and they agree on a wedding date.

The scene to which she is referring, clearly, is the scene in which Edward and Bella [*spoiler*] finally lock down the issue of marriage. Jacob, meanwhile, overhears the conversation and will be very upset by this news.

Also, she reveals that "Kristen has also been working with Taylor Lautner this week. “Bella” goes on a piggyback run with “Jacob” and they run through the forest. She also drops blood everywhere, and at some point she punches him in the face after he kisses her."

This scene speaks for itself, and, if you're like most people, you'll be excited to see this one in Eclipse.

Finally, Twilight star Peter Facinelli, Mr. Twitternelli himself, was being as kind as ever upon arriving in Vancouver. "A huge fan of his could not make it there in time to see him and get his autograph, so he told her friend he’d talk to her on the phone. They chatted for 5 minutes." That's Peter Facinelli for you!

OMG, finally. Robert Pattinson was spotted today in the back of a car arriving on the set of Eclipse in Vancouver. He's been laying low since the famous Kings of Leon concert featuring the possible kiss with Kristen, but we can now all breathe a little easier. Edward Cullen is back— happy Thursday! In the meantime we've been tiding ourselves over with his new magazine cover and all the different places we can put him in our homes. Not to mention, he's earned a spot in our shirtless finals, but more on that in a bit. There's also news that Death Cab For Cutie's song from the New Moon soundtrack will debut at the VMAs on September 13. For now, we'll be updating with more pics as we get them. Enjoy!

What's with the total lack of Robert Pattinson lately? He's all over this column, 'course, but it's his own studio that's leaving him in the dust, surprised? All we're seeing recently is dee-lish doll Kristen Stewart paired with Robbie-wannabe Taylor Lautner—on the cover of Entertainment Weekly, on the New Moon poster and trailer, sitting next to him at Comic-Con and the Teen Choice Awards, with Rob either MIA or brushed to the side. Summit is seriously trying to make Taystew happen.

And now in a new interview, Tay and Kris say they're "kind of addicted" to American Idol and they'd love to perform on the show together. What song did they say they'd love to duet on?

Taylor Swift's "Love Story." Ha! Summit would love to make you think it's 'cause K.S. and T.L. are madly crushing on one another, but we know it's 'cause Tay Lautner developed a li'l crush on Ms. Swift while smooching for the upcoming flick Valentine's Day.

Is Summit that terrified of a Robsten takeover? Why else would they try to hide Pattinson so much? Sure his character's in New Moon a lot less than he was in Twilight, but it's his face fans are following.

"Rob's just not going to be featured as prominently as he was before—for now," blabbed one of our superinside Deep Twi sources.

Twilight star Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner and the rest of the cast could be getting up close and personal with fans very soon.

Taking a page from the cult success of the “Star Trek” franchise, “Twilight” movie producer Summit Entertainment is planning to launch a series of conventions for Twilight fans over the next three years during the course of the flim series’ run.

The first convention will be held just outside New York, Aug. 28 at the Hilton Parsippany Hotel in Parsippany, N.J..

Other weekend conventions will follow in Chicago; Miami; Seattle; Nashville; San Francisco; Atlanta; Los Angeles; Charlotte, N.C.; Minneapolis; Phoenix; Boston; Toronto; and Portland, Ore

Summit Entertainment has partnered with Creation Entertainment to produce the "Twilight" fan conventions, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The conventions will be similar to the highly successful Star Trek conventions, that have managed to keep that franchise alive for more than 40 years.

They will feature onstage appearances by "Twilight" celebrities, screenings of exclusive footage, panel discussions, parties, musical performances, costume and trivia competitions, auctions, autographing, merchandising and photo opportunities.

"Twilight" fan sites, including twilightlexicon.com and twilightmoms.com, will take part with special presentations as part of the convention tour.

"The Twilight Saga: New Moon," the second movie in the franchise adapted from Stephenie Meyer's best-selling books, opens theatrically in North America on November 20.

He’s blown up as one of the hottest leading men in Hollywood, and Robert Pattinson says he refuses to worry about the politics of Tinseltown.

The “Twilight” stud told press, “I don’t think I have to prove anything to anyone. I don’t expect anyone to give me any breaks. I’m not one of those people who wants to scream, ‘Give me a chance. I will show you what I can do!’ You know, I really don’t care.

Pattinson also lamented the high price of fame on his privacy, saying that Twitter has made it impossible to go out in public.

“I can’t remember what my normal life is like. Because of internet stuff and Twitter, there will be a crowd if you are in a place for more than half an hour. I’ve learned never to stay in the same place for more than 20 minutes.”

I am posting this article below because of a post of my own I published on July 20th. It's still there if anyone wants to check it out. It was called: "Edward Cullen: Who's Hotter?" In my article I included pics of two others, actually three in all who might have been considered to play Edward.

Little did I know, that one of my pics, actually the most serious one, was in actuality, as you will read below, one of the actors considered for the role.
Well I suppose it shouldn't have surprised me, but actually I was. Usually the ones that I see picked for certain movie rolls, I totally disagree with or vice-versa. Anyway here's the article.

Catherine Hardwicke Reveals Rob Pattinson's Competition

But, as director Catherine Hardwicke revealed at the Twilight Lexicon in Phoenix, AZ, he was up against three other extremely attractive men for the role!

Hardwicke spilled "that the 4 finalists (who she called bachelor 1, 2, 3, 4) for the part of Edward Cullen were [Robert Pattinson,] Jackson Rathbone, Ben Barnes, and Shiloh Fernandez. She said to watch for Shiloh because she predicts that he’s going places."

As we all know, Jackson did make it into the flick and as a member of the Cullen clan.

Which of these actors could you imagine as Edward Cullen, if any?

Brett Ratner Wants Twilight Star Robert Pattinson for Youngblood

Twilight Saga star, Robert Pattinson could soon be trading in his Twilight and New Moon fangs for crime-fighting super powers if director Brett Ratner can land Pattinson for his new film, Youngblood. In an interview with MTV News, Ratner, who directed the Rush Hour trilogy and X-Men: The Last Stand, is currently developing Youngblood, which is based on the comic book that centers around a group of government-appointed superheroes.

Asked if Ratner had any names in mind for Youngblood, Brett said, "Definitely [Robert Pattinson] from Twilight... He just has that look." Aside from Robert Pattinson, the Youngblood comic features a slew of superheroes including Shaft, Badrock and Vogue. Youngblood made its first appearance in 1987 before becoming a series in 1992. Before the coming of age of Robert Pattinson, there was a changing line-up throughout the progression of the Youngblood series not unlike others like the Justice League from DC comics.

Ratner alluded to Robert Pattinson portraying the character of Shaft who was a former FBI agent and crackshot if Brett would be able to land Pattinson, the current global heartthrob from Twilight and New Moon. Would another potential franchise be a good idea for Robert Pattinson this close to the development of the Twilight Saga? Perhaps, but it would definitely push a diversified crowd of Twilight fans into theatres if Pattinson signs onto the Youngblood project. According to Ratner, who elaborated on the possibility in the MTV interview, Robert Pattinson has the potential to develop any character in the film. "I don't see him as a vampire. He's a really good actor."

That may be true in Brett Ratner's eyes but there are still droves of young girls and their mothers who will remain adamantly tied to Team Edward no matter what the outcome is.

Harley Pasternak is without a doubt the hottest and most sought after trainer in Hollywood, with superstar clients like Robert Pattinson, Jessica Simpson, Eva Mendes, and many more. In this interview, you'll get an inside look at the diet and workout plan A-list stars are swearing by. Harley also busts and confirms some fitness myths you've been pondering!

You have a star-studded clientele, who are also raving fans of your 5 factor diet. For those who aren't aware, could you give a brief description of the program?

The 5 factor program is made up of a nutrition and fitness lifestyle. The 5 factor diet is 5 meals a day. Breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, and dinner. Each meal fulfills 5 really simple criteria. It has to have a low-fat protein, healthy carbohydrate, at least 5-10 grams of fiber, healthy fats, and a low sugar beverage. Then one a day week if your free day to do whatever you want, whenever you want, however you want. Then I created close to a thousand recipes that take no more than 5 minutes to make, and include no more than 5 ingredients. And then the 5 factor fitness component is 5 workouts a week and each workout is made up of 5 phases that are each minimum 5 minutes in duration. These are very simple. Each workout starts with a cardio warm-up of minimum 5 minutes, and then you do a circuit of an upper body strength exercise and a lower body strength exercise and an abdominal strength exercise. We repeat that circuit a number of times, and then we end off with a minimum of 5 minute cardio cool-down. The workout can be expanded or contracted depending on the time, the strength, and the goals of the client. So you can extend the cardio warm-up and the cardio cool down, and give it more cardio. Each day of the week, we do different upper body, different lower body, and different abdominal muscles. And there you have it.

Can anybody do the 5 factor diet?

Anybody, of course.

When did you concoct the 5 factor diet and fitness plan?

This was a work-in-progress for a long time. I had a personal training business for over 17 years, and I was in graduate school and there was an exercise in nutritional science for the department of national defense. My research showed me the benefits of short intense exercise and the important of variation. On the soldiers is where I really learned the 5 factor fitness component. And then I got a degree in nutrition. Both of my brothers have type 1 diabetes. I started working with a lot of actors in films that came to Canada. I brought that all together and came up with the eating system which I found was the best for my clients to help them reach their goals. We found that the 5 meals the day is the healthiest for your blood sugar and appetite and energy levels. All the criteria I’ve stated are all essential components of a healthy meal. The reasons that people all give me for not eating properly is they don’t have time. Well, the 5 minute recipes get around that. They don’t always have these exotic ingredients around that we read about in some other diet books. You only need 5 simple ingredients per meal. I was making these in trailer on film sets, and I needed the minimum number of steps and ingredients and preperation.

How did you get started working with celebrities?

I started when I was in graduate school. I had a personal training business and there was a physician in Canada, Dr. Waxmann, who does the medicals for the insurance for all of the actors that come into town. There was a Canadian producer, who I was referred to from Dr. Waxman. I helped him lose close 70 pounds, got him into the shape of his life, and he referred me to the actors of the film he was producing. First film I worked on was “Angel Eyes”, and then I worked on movies like “Wrong Turn”, “Cold Creek Manor”, “Resident Evil”, and then “Gothika”-where I met Halle Berry and Robert Downey Jr. Then Halle asked me to come back to the US with her and get her ready for “Catwoman”. The rest is history.

Can you give me a few examples of areas that certain celebrities wanted to work on and how you’ve helped them achieve that goal?

Every area. I mean when you’re high profile, you’re photographed when you go for coffee, you’re photographed when you do red carpets, you’re photographed at every point in your life. There’s a need to look good from every angle, and to look good everyday. That’s why I think we’ve had a lot of success with the 5-factor program because it’s so sustainable, and so achievable, it’s so palatable. You’re not starving yourself, you’re not doing 3 hours a day of exercise. You can keep up, and I think that helps a lot of my clients look good from all angles and keep looking good.

So the people you work with adapt this as their lifestyle?

Exactly. We start with them on a specific film project and we end up working with them for several years.

How do celebrities usually prepare for movie roles when training with you?

There’s very little difference between them prepping for a film and continuing to look good after that film, and for the next film, and press that their doing for that film. They come into our studio anywhere from 3-5 days a week ad they do cardio on their off days, they either get our meal delivery program, in which the 5 factor meals get delivered to their door between midnight and 3am, takes the guess work out. Or they learn how to make the really simple 5 factor recipes on their own, and make smart eating choices. It’s pretty simple.

In your opinion, is the hardest part of a healthier lifestyle really getting started sticking with it?

Sticking with it, absolutely. Everybody and anybody been on a diet or tried a fitness program, but the attrition rate is terrible. So it’s really about finding something that you can see yourself doing every week for the rest of your life.

What advice do you have for those who are already at their goal weight, but would like to maintain their metabolism?

I would tell them to follow the 5 factor diet, I really would.

So the diet isn’t just for weight loss?

No. I mean if you have weight to lose you’ll lose weight but you can definitely manipulate the variables of the program to achieve you’re specific goal.

There is a saying that if you eat healthy and workout daily to maintain a healthy lifestlye, that you’re body will only lose as much weight as it’s needed, and then you will stop losing weight. Is that true?

Your body is clinical homeostasis, so it always tries to find whatever it can to get to a set point, or comfort zone. So depending on how far you are from that set point, your body will react accordingly. The closer you get to that set point (ie. your ideal weight), your body will stabilize and you’re program will have to vary in order to keep getting better and better.

Is it true that before attempting to develop abs, you must rid yourself of the fat covering your abs?

Yes. Absolutely.

So for example, “The Biggest Loser” where they just do crunches. How does that work?

It doesn’t. The weight loss that they are achieving is the result of the reduction of caloric intake and the increase of caloric output. They’re doing lots of cardio, they’re eating a lot less food. Those are the two primary ways of losing weight short-term like they are. The third is resistance training. By doing strength training, you’re burning calories while you’re doing strength training, not quite as much as cardio, but you’re burning calories. Because the residual byproduct of you burning more calories when you sleep at night, you’re increasing your resting metabolism. That is the sure way to keep your metabolism up.

So for one who doesn’t do any kind of cardio, and just does weights…you’re essentially hardening your fat?

In some ways. Your definitely reducing your body fat, but not as quickly as if you combine it with cardiovascular and/or if you do the resistance training at a high enough intensity with a lot of volume, alot repetitions, a lot of sets, that will mimic the effect of cardio as well because your heart will be racing.

There’s another saying that if you do crunches when you already have a flabby belly, that your flab will harden and you’ll never see the abs. Is that true?

No. They are two separate things. When you do a crunch you’re working the muscles, and it has nothing to do with the fat covering the muscles.

You’re most publicized clients right now are Jessica Simpson and Robert Pattinson, did they apply your 5 factor diet to their lives? Did they have specific goals?

Yes. Both of them are people who have different media goals (ie. films, television, and photography and wanting to look good for those.) Movie fixates on their love lives instead of their cultural importance

Leonardo DiCaprio survived playing poet Arthur Rimbaud without a hint of eloquence in "Total Eclipse," and Robert Pattinson should be able to live down his portrayal of painter Salvador Dali as a callow youth who becomes a hollow monster in " Little Ashes."

With a trio of charismatic figures at its center - Dali, the poet and playwright Federico Garcia Lorca (Javier Beltran), and the filmmaker Luis Bunuel (Matthew McNulty) - the movie commits the error of scanting their cultural importance and fixating on Lorca's semi-requited love for Dali. Set amid the ferment of 1922 Madrid, "Little Ashes" is the modernist gay equivalent of a bodice-buster. Maybe we should call it a boxers-buster.

The early scenes of these gifted youths converging at the Residencia de Estudiantes set off a rippling anticipation in the audience. You expect to feel the surge of revolutionary art and iconoclastic spirit as they tweak the repressive Establishment and dream of supplanting the ultra-orthodox status quo with new art and ideas.

Director Paul Morrison and screenwriter Philippa Goslett insert a welcome touch of dialectic to the arguments between the rambunctious internationalist Bunuel, who yearns for Paris (and does go there), and the more refined and rooted Lorca, who can't imagine himself creating anything authentic outside Spain. Lorca sees futility and chic in Bunuel's desire to breathe new air in France. Lorca wonders whether there's any point in exercising unfettered creativity in a country that's already free. (After Dali meets Bunuel in Paris, the painter's plunge into egoistic decadence seems to justify Lorca's skepticism.)

In the early sequences, Lorca and Dali do more than dally: They inspire each other. But as the going gets hot and heavy, the two artists shed their summer whites and embrace in deep-blue waters - and the imagery descends to the level of cosmetics commercials.

What is it with Pattinson always playing high-toned teases? In "Twilight" he can't make love to a girl because he's a vampire, and in "Little Ashes" he won't let Lorca go all the way with him (although he does watch the poet have sex with a desperate female). Is the main reason for Dali's reticence the influential Bunuel's scorn for homosexuals?

The movie could use less romantic boo-hoo-hoo and more Bunuel: It's engaging whenever Bunuel acts as ringleader or troublemaker, even when he's blustery and piggish. Reading the section on Madrid in Bunuel's autobiography, "My Last Sight," I had no idea whether it was any more accurate than "Little Ashes," but I got a greater sense of artists at play.

"We used to call [Dali] 'the Czechoslovakian painter,' although for the life of me I can't remember why," Bunuel recalls. He goes on to say, "Along with Federico, he became my closest friend. We were inseparable; Lorca nurtured quite a grand passion for Dali, but our Czechoslovakian painter remained unmoved."

After "Little Ashes," so are we.

Robert Pattinson featured in the latest edition of Life Story magazine

London native Robert Pattinson is featured in the latest edition of Life Story magazine.

The magazine features a 90 page spread on the actor, discussing his life from childhood and the various roles he's taken on during the course of his career.

Pattinson's big screen career began in 2004 when he starred in Dark Kingdom: the Dragon King (the film version of Ring of Nibelungs). That same year, the celeb also starred in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, taking on the role of Cedric Diggory, Daniel Radcliffe's rival in the love department.

It was the actor's role as Edward Cullen in the 2008 hit Twilight that brought him to his current celebrity status. Since then life has taken a drastic turn for the actor.

"I don’t walk in the street anymore, and when I do, I’m in disguise."

Pattinson has a busy year ahead of him. The star will begin filming the third installment in the Twilight series, the Twilight Saga: Eclipse in August. After that he is scheduled to star as Phineas in Unbound Captives, in Bel Ami (no information is currently available), and, if it is optioned, the Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn.

BEING Robert Pattinson can’t be a bad life for the 23-year-old star - after all, not a day goes by without him being mobbed by teenage girls screaming his name.

However, despite all this, he still remains refreshingly modest and can’t seem to understand what all the fuss is about - resulting in his appeal being added to even more for his thousands of fans the world over.

Talking to OK! recently, the hot young star filled us in on his new found fame, explaining some of the stranger things that have started happening to him since becoming a worldwide phenomenon little under than a year ago: ‘A mother recently gave me her baby and asked me: “Can you please bite her head?”

'People ambush me and try to figure out what hotel I’m staying at, as well as wanting to touch my hair. Everyone just screams and screams. It still feels surreal.’

Thanks to his role as dishy vampire Edward Cullen in Twilight, Brit heart-throb Robert is set to climb even further into the stratosphere when he sinks his teeth into the role for the second time in New Moon – set to hit the silver screen in November.

Here, Robert talks about why he’s no longer scared of his crazy fans, fancying his Twilight co-star Kristen Stewart and what he looks for in a girlfriend…

Did you have any idea what you were in store for when you signed up for Twilight?

No way. I read the script and I barely even knew that they were books too. The only reason I went to the audition was to see Kristen, because I’d just seen Into The Wild.

Are you saying you had a little bit of a crush on her?

Of course! No, we are just very good friends.

But there have been a lot of rumors about you two…

I know – but honestly, we are just friends.

Do you have a girlfriend?

No, no. I am young, free and single.

What do you look for in a lady?

I like people being forward. Gosh, I don’t know. I like strong people, chiselled abs… I don’t know, I take what I can get!

You have a huge amount of female fans, are you ever scared by them?

I had no idea people could get so obsessed. But it’s not scary – it’s amazing. People just project their idea of my character on to me and they just seem to assume that I’m the same, when in reality I’m not.

How comfortable are you with all the idol-like attention?

It’s kind of weird, but I still haven’t really had time to reflect on it because I’ve been doing stuff to do with Twilight and my other movies.

I’m working constantly and I feel like I’m always surrounded by Twilight people – if not my work colleagues, then my fans. Right now it is fans – it’s a little bizarre if I’m honest.

Have you had any weird fan experiences?

One time there were these four girls, in Chicago I think, and they had all scratched their necks until they bled and then when they came up to me they had these bleeding scabs. It was gross!

What is the hardest part of being Edward Cullen?

Probably trying to be scary when you’re supposed to be looking pretty at the same time.

Does it worry you that you may always be cast as a heart-throb?

I’m so surprised things have worked out the way they have, I just keep thinking the whole time, I don’t really have the right personality to fit in to that kind of role.

I’m not really afraid of it, though, because I don’t really know how to play up that aspect of it.

Why do you think Twilight fans are more obsessed than Harry Potter… fans, Lord Of The Rings fans and Matrix fans?

I don’t know, but they definitely are. There is this strange kind of connection that some people have to the books – it can be pretty extreme.

I think there are fans of Harry Potter… that are like that as well, but I guess this story is just so intimate that people think they really know the characters and can feel the emotions.

If you could live forever, like Edward Cullen, what would you do?
Probably learn to speak French. Or I might spend three weeks straight with no sleep learning the piano. You’d get really good at stuff because you would have time to do everything.

You have said that Edward is a little obsessive – are you surprised that girls think of Edward as the most perfect boyfriend ever?

Robert Pattinson says he is single and not, repeat, not dating his co-star Kristin Stewart.

In an interview with Britian's OK! Magazine, Robert said that he was "young, free and single" and simply "very good friends," with Kristin. We suppose that means he's not dating any of his alleged other girlfriends such as Camilla Belle, Natalie Portman, and New Moon co-star Nikki Reed

But according to Robert, although he thinks his female fans are "awesome" he doesn't believe he has it in him to be a heartthrob.
We beg to differ, Robert. And so do many of his rabid Twilight followers who go to extreme measures to get this hottie's attention. Robert told OK! Magazine:

What does it take to get Robert Pattinson to fall in love with you? Swooning Twilighters should take notes from a recent interview the "New Moon" star gave to

OK! in the U.K.

"I like people being forward," he told the magazine. "Gosh, I don't know. I like strong people, chiseled abs. ... I don't know, I take what I can get!"

And though Pattinson said he's single and again denied the rumors that he and Kristen Stewart are lovers undercover, he did admit to having a crush on his co-star before joining the "Twilight" cast.

The 23 year old actor, who played brooding vampire Edward in hit teen movie "Twilight", beat Hollywood hunks Johnny Depp and Hugh Jackman to top the list in the poll of 2,000 girls.

Robert has previously said, "The hottest actor stuff doesn't really mean anything. You have a month maybe with all this heat and hype".

Robert Pattinson recently denied rumours that he is dating his "Twilight" co-star Kristen Stewart.

While speaking with OK! magazine, he said, "No, no. I am young, free and single, we are just very good friends".

In what may well be the least surprising result since So You Think You Can Dance won the Emmy for Best TV Choreography, British actor Robert Pattinson, otherwise known as R-Pattz, Robot Pattinson and "that James Dean wannabe from Twilight," has won the title of Sexiest Man on the Planet according to Glamour UK magazine.

Pattinson had to squeeze past 46-year-old heartthrob Johnny Depp to take the top prize, with Hugh Jackman sliding in to third place.

Perennial sexiest man competitor Brad Pitt made an appearance at fifth place behind British soccer star David Beckham. Teen frenzy creator Zac Efron came in sixth, and George Clooney finished seventh.

Gossip Girl actor Chace Crawford, singing superstar Justin Timberlake and Colin (Mr. Darcy) Firth rounded out the ten.

Pattinson told Glamour the award wouldn't be considered the pinnacle of his career, saying, "The hottest actor stuff doesn't really mean anything. You have a month maybe with all this heat and hype."

The poll asked 2,000 U.K. women which men they found most attractive.

Twilight cast arrives in Vancouver to rehearse but Rob Pattinson and Kristen Stewart remain in LA

With just twelve days left before the third installment of the Twilight Saga: Eclipse begins filming, the cast has begun to descend into Vancouver, B.C. Ashley Greene, Kellan Lutz, Nikki Reed, newcomer Bryce Dallas Howard, and Taylor Lautner have all been spotted in town, but the two main stars of the film -and the subjects of a tabloid romance- have yet to appear. Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart are in LA, and only one has a valid excuse to be there!

Stewart is still filming the Joan Jett biopic, The Runaways, with another Twilight Saga costar, Dakota Fanning.

Pattinson recently wrapped up filming in New York City for the movie Remember Me and flew into LAX on Tuesday. Stewart and Pattinson have long been rumored to be a couple and this little side trip of Pattinson's prior to heading to Vancouver will likely keep the rumor mill spinning!

Taylor Lautner is the latest star to arrive in Vancouver. He flew in today from Los Angeles, where he was recently filming the movie Valentine's Day, an ensemble rom-com starring the likes of Emma Roberts, Taylor Swift, and some big name stars like Jennifer Garner, Anne Hathaway, Bradley Cooper, and more. Lautner told Radar that he is "very excited" to work on Eclipse, which should have a lot of action in it.

At this point, much of the cast will spend a week or so in fight training to prepare for the movie's action scenes. The climactic point of the movie is when the vampire Victoria (recently recast to Howard) brings her newborn vampire army to hunt down Bella (Stewart), who is defended by a mix of vampires and werewolves. Filming starts on August 17 and should last about three months. While in town, it's a safe bet that some lucky Canadians and tourists will see the Twilight cast at places like the Blue Water Cafe + Raw Bar, Glowbal Grill and Satay Bar, and the Metropole during their downtime.

Fans who can't get enough of Robert Pattinson can see him making yet another public appearance next week. The star will be in attendance at the 2009 Teen Choice Awards.

Pattinson will be joined by his fellow Twilight co-stars, including Kristen Stewart.

In addition to attending the awards show, Pattinson is up for the Choice Movie Actor Drama award. Hugh Jackman and Brad Pitt are among the actor's competition for the award.

Pattinson's blockbuster hit Twilight is also up for several awards, including Choice Movie Romance and Choice Movie Drama.

The star has already won awards for his various performances. In 2008 he took home the Strasbourg International Film Festival award for Best Actor for his work in How to Be. He also won three awards at the 2009 MTV Movie Awards, including Best Fight, Best Kiss, and Breakthrough Performance Male, all for his work in Twilight.

The Teen Choice Awards will be hosted by the Jonas Brothers and will air on FOX Monday, August 10, 2009, at 8PM ET.

Robert Pattinson: All the Girls I've Liked Hated Me

Twilight hunk Robert Pattinson is adored by millions of women around the world, but his love life has apparently always been rocky.

"I had really bad luck with girls [when I was younger]: the ones I liked hated me and the ones that liked me were not my type," the self-deprecating Rob tells Glamour Spain. "But that’s something that I still go through. I like girls that I shouldn’t like. But I’m learning, and now I take my time before I let the girl know."

Pattinson, who's currently in Vancouver filming New Moon (the sequel to Twilight), has become an overnight paparazzi target thanks to the vampire romance's stunning popularity. And while Twilight centers on the obsessive love between a 17-year-old human girl and a 108-year-old vampire, Rob isn't sure the romance is very realistic.

"The conventional idea of love--the idea of being with somebody for the rest of your life and love her forever sounds so silly to me and so unrealistic," says Pattinson, 22. "I think you can love 10 people at the same time (laughs)."

The 6'1" British heartthrob is single at the moment, but tabloids have linked him to every young Hollywood starlet from Natalie Portman to Megan Fox to his co-star, Kristen Stewart.

Rob, who has only had one serious relationship so far, finds many smart, talented women attractive, but he doesn't fall in love that easily. "I’ve only been attracted to two women in my whole life," he confesses. "I’m crazy about independent women who don’t require too much attention."

When asked about his first love (whom he dated from age 18 to 21), Pattinson is nostalgic. "Our relationship was really beautiful, but we didn’t have an obsessive love like in the movie," he says. "Her presence in my life made me very happy for three years. Now it’s kind of hard to talk about."

For the moment, Rob doesn't have much time for romance since he's busy shooting New Moon and its sequel, Eclipse.

When asked about his overnight star status, Pattinson is philosophical. "I don’t mind [being the new It Guy]," he says. "My character [Edward] is so good, and he deserves to be admired. From the moment I signed up for this I knew what I was getting myself into."

Perhaps while all of the speculation continues over whether or not Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson are dating, she's actually the secret girlfriend of Taylor Lautner.
(I kid, I kid.) But with so many sexy famous women crushing hard on Robert Pattinson, you have to wonder why he isn't dating any of them. Starlets from Jennifer Love Hewitt (who, like Robert Pattinson, also used to be considered one of the biggest sex symbols of her time back in her 'Can't Hardly Wait' days), Megan Fox (I'd love to see her character in 'Jennifer's Body' take on Edward Cullen), and Shakira (her hips mesmerize guys the way Robert Pattinson's eyes mesmerize girls) might drop everything and become the most hated woman in the world as Robert Pattinson's girlfriend if he asked them. But while all these girls seem to have big crushes on Robert Pattinson, I wouldn't expect to see him dating any of them any time soon.

Sometimes Kristen Stewart's attitude toward Robert Pattinson makes me think he's boring to be around and not very interesting once you get to know him. Kristen Stewart is around him more than most girls, and while you'd think she'd be the most obvious choice for a girlfriend, I honestly don't think she's interested in her costar despite those steamy scenes they share in the 'Twilight' movies. In fact, I really would more expect her to end up dating Taylor Lautner than Robert Pattinson.

Megan Fox would make a perfect girlfriend for Robert Pattinson; the two seem to always have that same brooding look on the red carpet, and being two of the greatest sex symbols of the new millennium, they'd really be able to relate to each other. Their dating would be Angelia Jolie and Brad Pitt, Part II, but the obsession with these two might be even more intense. But, then again, check out Megan Fox's fangs in her new movie, 'Jennifer's Body', and I'd say she'd chew up Edward Cullen and spit him out. I think Megan Fox and Taylor Lautner would make a cute couple, but I believe she prefers older men.

The Twilight hunk's smile is the what does it for his fans, that's at least according to a new survey of Splash readers.

Earlier this week RPattz claimed he just didn't know why people liked him so much.

Well Rob, now you know! More than 40% claimed the British actor's smile was his best feature, while 30% said his face and 20% his hair, while the remaining 10% voted for his voice.

Did you know, that if you say "Robert Pattinson" three times loudly in a public place you'll be trampled by a horde of fangirls? True story. It happened to a friend of a friend of mine.

I'm too young for Beatlemania, and way too old for JonasBrothersmania (how many of them are there again?) but I am kind of slinking along the edges of Pattinsonitis. I cried when he died in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, I loved him as Art in How To Be and although I'm not a fan of the Twilight books (I know, I know. It's like blasphemy in this day and age), I thought he was the best thing about the movie.

So no, I'm not immune to Pattinsonitis.

It's fascinating to watch the groundswell of hype surrounding this young guy from England. I can't imagine it's too much fun being the centre of it, but watching from the outside is an exercise in seeing exactly How Fandom Works.

Imagine it as its own little universe, with Robert Pattinson in the centre ruling over this patch of Fandom with lanky, awkward elegance. He's the star - the object that fans gravitate to. They both love him and hate him in equal (and extreme) measure. Love him when he's everything they want him to be, hate him when he's human. How Dare He Smoke For God's Sake? And He Should Really Stop Drinking On His Downtime Because It's Not A Good Look And Not Good For A Role Model And Won't Somebody Think Of The Children Please?

Orbiting closely to the star is an asteroid. For argument's sake, let's say that this is the blogosphere and the paparazzi. Tabloid celebrity blogs such as Perez Hilton, TMZ, E! etc circle around like sharks waiting for the star to explode. They are actively waiting and watching for the supernova. They might needle it abit to give it a nudge - because hey, we can't all wait a million light years, can we?

For a young, outgoing guy like Robert Pattinson, this would be akin to having your parents follow you around, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

What the hell is that you're smoking?

I don't like that woman you're seeing.

Please don't punch that photographer, even if their lens is in your face

If anyone of us was followed in this manner by work colleagues outside of office hours, we'd be pretty cranky looking too.

Beyond the orbit of Perez Hiltons' and the like, are the system of planets called fans. These planets are held together by the gravitational pull of the star, and, whether we like it or not, also depend on the pull of the Blogosphere and Paparazzi Satellites.

(And you didn't think you were going to learn anything reading this article!)

Fans aren't all created equal. Some are bigger than others, better-known than others. Some are closer to the centre and some are further away. Some scream and cry and chase Robert Pattinson down the street. Others sit back and say "there's no way I'd scream and cry and chase Robert Pattinson down the street." These fan planets have their own hierarchy, and are fascinating, frightening and wholly unstable - but that's another story.

This chain works in symbiosis. Even if we believe what the tabloid blogs do is deplorable (it often is, someone get that white pen away from Perez please) as fans in order to get closer and learn more about the "object of our affection" we look to the ones who are in a "better position" to see what we cannot.

Because this is often only a facade (only a fragment of the person's persona, or even a figment of an overzealous blogger's imagination) by the time it reaches fans it is often untrue, or at the very least incredibly diluted.

So why do we rely on tabloids to give us these made-up pieces of Robert Pattinson? Why should we act so grateful for that? Do we really want him to be dissected and laid bare? Are we going to let it get to a stage where he snaps and ends up a shadow of the funny, warm guy that brought us here to this fandom universe in the first place?

If you look at interviews from around the time he was in Harry Potter to now, it's completely, heartbreakingly different.

I think that's what pains me the most. Stars - those incandescent centres of the solar system - don't burn forever and the ones that burn the brightest often burnout the quickest.

It's always a big step meeting the prospective in-laws, so it's not surprising that tongues have been wagging after it was suggested that Robert Pattinson might be bringing Kristen Stewart to London to meet the family.

"Rob is sick of being in the spotlight and he told Kristen he wants to go back to London as soon as they finish shooting Eclipse so he can hang out with his friends and family and not be followed by fans," a source has told TransWorldNews.

We're not so sure that Kristen will want to spend her much needed break sucking up to the parents when she finally finishes Twilight Eclipse and Joan Jett biopic Runaways, so this is probably one to file under 'unlikely'.

Rumors say that if a while ago he was shy, now Robert Pattinson become kind of rude on the set of his new film ‘Remember Me’. “Rob’s just rude. The fame is really starting to go to his head”, an insider told Star.

The members of the production team are complaining that Pattinson is “aloof and stuck-up”. It seems like the star is making fun about the support staff and also he ignores the dozens of fans who come all the way to Manhattan just to see him.

“I don’t know what the guy’s problem is. He goes from his trailer to the shoot and completely ignores all the fans who have been waiting around to see him. It’s so obnoxious”, another source from the set declared.

Pattinson gained his heartbreaker reputation after the huge fame of the last winter’s movie ‘Twilight’. Originally he took very hard the idea of being a star. But now it seems that he transforms himself into that kind of actor who ignores everybody and feels that the whole world moves around them.

“He walks in here like he owns the place. This one waitress treated him like a regular customer, and he flipped. He was really upset that she didn’t recognize him…” an employee at the Big Apple’s Bowery Hotel declared.

Apparitions and abs set Twilighters' hearts on fire at Comic-Con in San Diego, with the unveiling of two new scenes from the Twilight sequel, New Moon.

In the first clip, Bella (Kristen Stewart) takes her first ride on a motorcycle built for her by best bud Jacob (Taylor Lautner). As she mounts the bike, putting her usually clumsy self in danger, Edward's (Robert Pattinson) apparition appears warning her to be cautious.

Craving to see her vampire love, who fled Forks so she could have a normal life, Bella speeds up only to crash and injure herself. Jacob then runs to her aid, taking off his T-shirt (revealing his ripped abs in the process!) for her to wipe the blood from her forehead.

"You're sorta beautiful," Bella says, igniting her passion for her once-platonic pal.

The second clip, which can be viewed on YouTube, shows Bella frantically in pursuit of Edward (also shirtless!) in Italy in an effort to prevent him from stepping out into the sunlight and revealing his true, sparkling self.

SAN DIEGO — At this year's Comic-Con, the "Twilight" saga stars rode into town like Sherman's army, overtaking downtown San Diego while being flanked by black-T-shirt wearing, eardrum-shattering, Burger King-crowned fans. And although some geeks found it difficult to lay down their Cylon helmets and surrender, the Twilighters were peaceful during their Thursday occupation, as tens of thousands of them partied like they were at the Forks High prom.

"My heart belongs to 'Twilight,' always," insisted Alison Grenda, 14, as she waited for hours outside the Gaslamp Theater, where the stars showed up after a hard day of interviews, presentations and hug-receiving to introduce the biggest surprise hit of last year.

"We're going to see 'Twilight,' and we get to meet the cast," beamed Gina Vallejo, 14, one of the thousands of fans who stood in line to see the film as it played simultaneously in more than a dozen theaters. "And we're really, really, really excited."

"We were going to get ice cream, and we were walking, but they put these metal bars up so we couldn't pass," explained Marin Mayfield, 10, whose break from line-waiting was interrupted by something far more delicious than Rocky Road. "They told us that the cast was coming. Then a big bus came!"

"All the cast got off. There was Esme, Bella, Edward, and then there was Taylor Lautner coming off!" remembered her sister Hayley, 13. "I love Taylor Lautner, so I was screaming, 'Taylor! Taylor!' He pointed to me as he got off the bus, and I was totally hyperventilating."

"Then he came up, I reached my hand out, and he held onto it for a second," she said feverishly. "Then he let go and said, 'Bye! I'll see you in there!' "

Moments later, Hayley would go inside to cap off her "Twilight" day by walking through a lobby filled with Bella and Edward Barbie dolls, "Twilight" candy and Volturi makeup, then sitting down in one of the theaters and watching her favorite film, introduced by Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Ashley Greene and more of the cast. But first, she was busy insisting that she would never wash her "Taylor hand" again.

"No!" laughed the Team Jacob loyalist. "I almost came close, actually. I put hand sanitizer on, and then remembered and wiped it off fast."

Why did tens of thousands of Twilighters invade Comic-Con, sleep on the sidewalk, endure long lines and taunts from bitter sci-fi geeks? For the final word, we went to Briana Gonzalez, 11, who gave us a hard point to argue.

"The books are really good," she said. "And so is the movie!"

For months there has been speculation as to who will portray
the also yet-to-be-named villain in the next sequel of the
the Spider-Man franchise.

Director Sam Raimi said that he wouldn't reveal the "Spider-Man
4" villains are until the script was finished.

Earlier this month we learned that the script was just sent
back for a re-write.

In other words, no names will be announced any time soon as
to who will play the unnamed villains.

What is buzzing around the internet today (without any
confirmed reports whatsoever) is that Robert Pattinson may
be approached to play a villain in Spider-Man 4.

Tobey Maguire vs. Robert Pattinson?

That certainly would be interesting. But most insiders are 99%
certain it won't happen.

But not because Pattinson would be uninterested.

Rather, the young star has two more films in the Twilight
saga to shoot. And with Spider-Man 4 production ahead for
next year, there just might not be enough hours in the day
for Robert Pattinson to take the role - a role that no one
knows exists or will even be offered to him.

Gotta love rumors.

Katrina Bowden was most definitely not among the throngs of screaming fans to greet the cast of New Moon at Comic-Con this week. In fact, the 30 Rock actress is only lukewarm about Twilight heartthrob Robert Pattinson.

"I think he's a good looking guy, but I'm not that into him," Bowden told PEOPLE of the British hunk while hosting the kick-off party to Daffy's summer contest in New York City Thursday. "He's not really my type."

Though she has yet to see Pattinson in his full brooding glory in Twilight, she does understand the fascination around Hollywood's hottest vampire. "He looks like he has a scowl on his face, which some people find very sexy. I like somebody who's more funny and jokey – a little less serious looking.”

For Bowden, 20, whose breakthrough show was recently nominated for 22 Emmy Awards, a pretty face and a hit movie are not all she seeks in a potential boyfriend.

So what does the New Jersey native look for in a guy? "Just someone who I can have fun with," she says, "someone who's ambitious and has big goals for themselves, but also doesn't take themselves too seriously."

Robert Pattinson: Fame Isn't the 'Worst Thing'

Life isn't a drag since he's become the object of affection for women obsessed with the sexy vampire Edward Cullen, says New Moon star Robert Pattinson.

"I never do anything normal anyway," he joked at the New Moon panel Thursday at Comic-Con in San Diego. "And I just get other people to do it now."

Pattinson and his castmates Taylor Lautner and Kristen Stewart spoke to Comic-Con fans and media about their newfound fame.

"I pretty much live an almost identical life apart from being recognized," Pattinson explained. "That's not exactly the worst thing in the world."

Lautner said life has been a lot busier, but both he and Stewart agreed that getting a chance to see the fans at Comic-Con was one of the best parts of their experiences with the Twilight series.

"It's a little overwhelming to have so many people here, but I guess it's a good thing," Stewart said. Added Lautner: "Little nervous, but it's good."

There's just one thing Lautner, who plays the werewolf Jacob Black, said he'd like to tell fans to stop doing.

"They ask me to growl for them and I really don't enjoy doing that," he said. "So that's for the fans – please don't ask me to growl. Just wait for the movie."

Noot Seear Goes For Blood in 'New Moon'

Noot Seear is no stranger to playing a vamp, at least where fashion folk are concerned. The 25-year-old Canadian catwalker has spent the last 12 years strutting down runways for the likes of Alexander Wang and Proenza Schouler, displaying the kind of chiseled cheekbones and perfect pout that could lure any unsuspecting fellow.

This fall, she’ll get to show off a more literal take on her man-eating side when she makes her film debut in “New Moon,” the much-anticipated second installment in the “Twilight” series, which hits theaters Nov. 20. Seear tackles the role of Heidi, a member of an elite group of vampires known as the Volturi. Her special talent is — what else? — seducing human prey.

But looks that could kill were only part of the job description, according to “New Moon” director Chris Weitz.

“We wanted someone who had an unearthly and unlikely beauty, but could also convey humor and menace,” explains Weitz, who reportedly also considered AnnaLynne McCord of “90210” before eventually settling on Seear. “It’s rare to find a stunningly attractive person who also happens to have the ability to act.”

Certainly Seear has the first part of the equation down. Discovered by a scout at 13, the model (born Renata Seear) left her native Vancouver for New York City, where she booked the Calvin Klein show within a week.

“And that was it. I wasn’t going back to Canada,” she recalls.

Twelve years later, Seear has a solid portfolio full of high-profile gigs, including print ads for Chanel and Pantene Pro-V. And while she’s probably most recognizable for posing as Mona Lisa in a 1998 Yves Saint Laurent campaign, Seear is by no means a household name. “I have this representation where they’ve never overexposed me,” she says.

Seear plans to bring that same measured approach to acting. “I’ve always been biting at the bit to get into this industry,” says the model, who has trained with famed acting coach Alan Savage for the past few years and has already had bit parts on Canadian TV shows. “Alan was always like, ‘Be patient, you’ve only got one shot at this,’” she says. (It doesn’t hurt that Seear’s New York agency, One Model Management, has helped the likes of Devon Aoki make similar career switches.)

But when the opportunity to be part of the “Twilight” juggernaut came about, she knew it was her time. “I started reading the books, and I couldn’t put them down,” she says.

She admits she was worried her modeling years would hinder her acting chops. “I was really scared because you’re not allowed to look in the camera [when filming a movie], but in the modeling world, you’re supposed to,” recalls Seear, whose problem was solved by the heavy-duty violet contacts she had to wear on-screen. “I literally couldn’t see 2 feet in front of me. They would tell me, ‘Look at Kristen [Stewart],’ and I was like, ‘OK. Where is she?’”

Seear is as excited about the film’s debut as the franchise’s cult fans. She’s already picked out her dress for the premiere (Balmain) and is anxiously awaiting her upcoming Heidi action figure.

And the model, who’s already signed up for two more “Twilight” installments, shows no signs of slowing down. “Modeling was great to me. I made a lot of money doing it,” says Seear, who plans to move to Los Angeles later this year to focus on acting. “[But] what makes acting different is that you get a voice. You’re not just a picture.”

But that's not all they have for your sweet fangs…

The folks behind the Valentine's Day-friendly treats also created special boxes of Twilight Sweethearts. Flavors include as "Orange Obsession," "Tempting Apple," "Passion Fruit" and "Secret Strawberry."

More importantly, gone are phrases such as "Fax Me" and "Will U B Mine." Stuff like "Dazzle," "Bite Me," "Live 4-Ever," "I [heart] EC" and "Forks" are so much more lip-lickingly romantic!

The hearts come in theater-sized boxes for $2.99 each, while the chocolates are 79 cents each.

Sure, they also come filled with calories, but when else are you going to get a taste of Pattz, Kristen Stewart or Taylor Lautner?

One 'New Moon' Film Tagline Revealed, Website Updates Examined

The official website for The Twilight Saga: New Moon was officially launched today, and it was, in the words of Laurent, "mouth watering."

Firstly, we got to see a lot of rather beautiful stills placed sporadically throughout the website (see below for screenshots). We also got to enter the homes of both the Cullen coven and the La Push gang - complete with sound bite quotes from both Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner (as Edward Cullen and Jacob Black respectively).

One of the features not discussed here yet has been the biographical information contained in the home tours offered by the updated site.

Though the Volturi are yet to be pictured (which leaves us eagerly curious, of course), many of the main characters from the film were - complete with quotes from them as well.

In the Cullen House, we see Dr. Carlisle Cullen (Peter Facinelli), Esme Cullen (Elizabeth Reaser), Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson), Rosalie Hale (Nikki Reed), Alice Cullen (Ashley Greene), Jasper Hale (Jackson Rathbone), Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart), and Emmett Cullen (Kellan Lutz).

In the La Push reservation, we see Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner), Embry Call (Kiowa Gordon), Sam Uley (Chaske Spencer), Jared (Bronson Pelletier), Paul (Alex Meraz), and Bella (Kristen Stewart) again.

The presence of Bella in both places evidences and echoes the dichotomy we discussed that is to be expected in New Moon.

Also interesting about the two locations is the quotes that each character is marked with in their biographical information. Many of them contain quotes that you all chose as your favorites (see here, for instance).

Here are the quotes that are offered by the site for these characters.

Dr. Carlisle Cullen - "Imagine the situation in reverse. If you believed you would be destroying Edward's soul ... would you do it?"

Bella - "It never made sense for you to love me. I always knew that."

Another bit of very exciting news has been revealed as well. A poster from Singapore was released that contains a tagline for the film. It is not the official U.S. tagline for the film, but it is an official tagline for the Singapore region. It reads, "What do you do ... when the one thing you live for leaves you?"

When we talked about what the tagline for the film might look like, a lot of the suggestions were a variation of this particular sentiment, so what do you think of it now? Twilight Special Report: On the set of New Moon

May 7, 2009, 3:04PM The Vancouver afternoon is wet and gloomy. The peaks of the North Shore Mountains are obscured in fog. This is weather that might lure out a vampire. Or so I hope. I'm in Vancouver to find them.

Amid the gas stations, superstores and baseball fields of the industrial south side of the city is Vancouver Sound Studios. Our van rolls into the parking lot, and suddenly, I am at the epicenter of a worldwide sensation and a billion teenage (and middleage and every other age) fantasies.

This is the set of New Moon.

3:36PM Our passes for the day say "USM," for "Untitled Sports Movie." Seems New Moon, which has been filming here and around Vancouver since March 23, is a major covert operation.

3:37PM The five other reporters and I are escorted onto Stage B. The soundstage is a massive warehouse filled by a nearly-as-massive set. On its outside, the structure looks like a plywood shell, but a glimpse through the door reveals an ornate marble palace very similar in appearance to a traditional Italian cathedral. I have entered the Volturri lair.

3:40PM A bank of monitors display what New Moon director Chris Weitz is filming on the other side of the wall. Onscreen now are Dakota Fanning and Cameron Bright, both Twilight Saga newbies, sporting deathly pallors and red contact lenses. The pretty woman with the long glossy hair sitting to my right is Stephenie Meyer. The only way I could get closer to central command of the Twilight universe would be to climb on her lap and ask her to tell me a story.

3:45PM Michael Sheen, as the Volturri leader Aro, taunts Edward on the other side of wall. The scene goes like this:

Aro: "Let's see if she's immune to all of us, shall we Jane."

[Cut to Dakota. Her black-rimmed red-centered eyes coordinate with her evil little smirk. Sinister. Whoever she's directing her gaze towards -- presumably Bella -- is in for a world of hurt. Jane's power is the ability to inflict pain.]

3:55PM A group of male, seemingly Volturri-affiliated vampires hang out under a pop-up tent. All are dressed in black suits. Some read and others play with their phones. They all wear red contacts, which are, out of context, alarming.

3:57PM A second tent is for the New Moon royalty. No one is inside, but the back of one director's chair reads "Alice Cullen." On the other two, "Edward Cullen" and "Bella Swan" have been taped over. Someone took a Sharpie to the tape and scrawled "Robert" and "Kristen," respectively, in big block letters. Robert's chair is in the middle. Make of this what you will.

4:02PM Saga superstars Ashley Greene, Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson pass by me on their way to set. My heart rate picks up the same way it used to for Hanson.

4:15PM Stewart, Pattinson and Greene film a scene with the Volturri. It goes (more or less) like this:

[Bella, Alice and Edward, who wears a long maroon cloak, stand near the entrance of the ornate room. Aro steps off the dias towards our daring trio.]

Aro: What a happy surprise. Bella is alive after all. I love a happy ending. They're so rare. La tua cantante [Italian for "your song"]. It makes me thirsty. Her blood appeals to me. How do you stand to be so close to her?

Edward: It's not without its difficulties. (RP says this with intensity).

Aro: So now you know everything. Fascinating. I'd love to see if you are an exception to my gift as well. Would you do me the honor?

[Aro seems to meditate on Bella.]

Interesting. I see nothing. I wonder if -- let's see if she's immune to all of our powers, shall we Jane?

4:38PM As Aro, Michael Sheen is regal, charming, spooky and just a touch off his rocker. Fans are going to adore him.

A Feathery Chat With Michael Sheen

You arrived on set three days ago. What is it like to come in so late in shooting?

Michael Sheen: It's been great shooting at the deep end of it. The first day filming, we did the 18th century stuff and then some of the modern stuff. It was a lot to deal with -- you know with the wig and contact lenses all day and the makeup -- but it was fantastic. And these sets are amazing and the look of everyone is so strong. So it was great. Just kind of to get right into it.

Is there an irony for you, playing a vampire after playing a Lycan in Underworld?

MS: I feel a bit like a traitor now that I've swapped sides. The vampires get to wear much cooler clothes in Underworld and in this. So now I get a nice bit of tailoring instead of raggedy leather.

The nice thing about playing a werewolf is that you don't have to worry about getting dirty on set. At lunch time, I can have a lie down, and it doesn't matter because I'm supposed to look rough, versus this where I have to look perfectly tailored and groomed and clean all the time. So I can't sit down or do anything because I've got all this white makeup on, and I'm wearing black clothes. I've got to be really careful that I don't get covered in stuff.

How did you approach playing Aro?

MS: I loved the thing in the books where Stephenie wrote about how the Cullen family is all really beautiful, and that's what kind of lures people into their web. And Aro is not like that. She describes Aro as being not the same sort of thing.

I like the idea that it's his voice that lures people in -- and his sort of demeanor rather than the way he looks -- because he looks very weird and kind of scary. So I've tried to sort of go down that route to make him very mesmerizing. That his voice is quite gentle and soft, and yet there's something kind of unhinged about him. They're great scenes.

Stephenie was saying that she loved writing this scene that we're doing now. I read it over and over and over again, that particular bit in the book. There's a part where she describes his voice as being quite feathery. That's what gave me sort of the idea of making him very soft and light. I think she describes it as being like a sigh, his voice. And that he's a bit like a concerned grandfather at times with Edward. Even though he's this deadly, really dangerous character, there's something quite sentimental about him, something soft.

5:15PM We talk with the Twilight Saga's screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg. For some reason, the interview takes place outside the soundstage in the parking lot, by a garbage can. In the rain.

How was writing New Moon different from Twilight?

Melissa Rosenberg: In Twilight, you're setting up the world. You're introducing the world, and I was also writing in a vacuum because I didn't know who the actors were going to be. Now you're going to New Moon and Eclipse, and I could write specifically to them in my mind. So it becomes a more comfortable world.

New Moon is not about setting up the world, but it's its own set of challenges because New Moon is very internal ... There's been a lot of talk about how Edward and the Cullens are not a part of the middle of New Moon, but actually they are. Certainly Edward is very much alive in Bella's mind throughout New Moon ... I think fans will be very satisfied with what we're doing ? one, because it's true to the book and two, because there's more Edward. That can't be bad!

Can we surmise then that we'll see more of the Cullens and Victoria throughout New Moon?

MR: I think you could surmise that, yes. Yes, you can. You will.

On writing Eclipse:

MR: The third one was hard. Actually, the hardest one of the three for me to write. I was so disappointed that it was so hard to write because you read the third book, and it has a great feel with action and conflict and you think, "Oh, this is going to be the easy one," and it turns out it's not the easy one. It's actually the hardest of them all.

What was fun about doing Eclipse was that Stephenie -- any writer when they're creating a world like Stephenie has created -- has to know all the parts they're doing. The book is entirely from Bella's point of view, but she has to know as a writer what all these other characters are doing when they land in Bella's world. So she has a very, very complex, detailed mythology, as anyone who knows the Twilight world knows. It's very detailed, which is why this is such a great world to play around in.

With any sci-fi fantasy storytelling, you must have rules be very clear, otherwise you lose people, like "OK, they can fly; now they can't fly." So her rules are very, very distinct, but within that, there are just miles of playground.

I think there's going to be some fun with it, but it's still very much the book. From the very beginning with Twilight, that's what Stephenie's one thing was: "Do the book. Adapt the book. Don't use the book as a jumping-off place ...." That's what her one rule was, and that was the only thing I wanted to do anyways.

On writing with the actors in mind:

MR: I'm definitely able to write toward them ... To me, they become interchangeable with the book, because they're so much those characters. When I first saw them, when they were first brought on, I was just stunned at how perfect the casting was for them. And Catherine Hardwicke and Summit did a really extraordinary job of finding them.

When I wrote Twilight before they came on, I would kind of sometimes lean towards quippy, sometimes broad humor, sometimes very dark. I added a lot of that into the Twilight script, and it wasn't right. So I actually kind of went a little bit away from the book in some ways. The actors kind of brought me from the screenplay back to the tone of the book. So it was them helping me find the tone of the book -- and Catherine, of course.

Her favorite character to write:

MR: I'm really enjoying writing Jacob. Jacob's a great deal of fun to write. Charlie. Particularly writing for that actor Billy Burke. Charlie is someone -- Billy Burke is someone -- who you just can give a line to, you can give him a deep emotional line or a funny one-liner, and that guy can deliver anything and always brings something new to it. Of course, I love writing the relationship between Bella and Edward -- it's really important.

The biggest challenge:

MR: The biggest challenge is the Bella/Edward, because you're always writing a line between real intimacy and what's true versus overly maudlin or melodrama. True romance and true drama -- that's always the line.

5:02PM Ashley Greene sits next to Stephenie Meyer. They are deep in conversation.

5:30PM The actors have ditched Stage B for the day, which makes it the perfect time for me to lurk around Casa Volturri on a self-guided tour.

The lair is a high-ceiling, cathedral-like room composed of marble pillars and porticos. My Latin is a little rusty, but the script on the wall translates to "no one is above law" (full disclosure: I Googled it). The words "death" and "life" are also engraved in the marble.

5:40PM A crewmember walks by me with a Sprite. He holds up the can. "There's blood in here," he says with a wink.

5:42PM There is a raised credenza at the front of the room on which four ornate black and gold chairs sit. Each chair has a gold lion's head on the armrest and a different design above the headrest. Behind the chairs, there is a brightly lit window that suggests an outdoor balcony.

The door "outside" opens to a loggia decorated with fountains and stucco animal (pigs, horses, lions) statues. I touch the pig (don't tell!) and realize the whole structure, fake fountains and all, is made of Styrofoam. Impressive.

6:03PM Walking to another soundstage to watch Robert Pattinson do what he does best. I won't lie -- the awareness of where I'm going and who I'm going to see when I get there puts a real pep in my step on the walk over.

6:07PM Robert's body double stands in front of a green screen while Mr. Pattinson has the gray suit he's wearing fitted a bit. He's filming some "apparition work" i.e., a scene in which he appears to Bella in vision form.

6:09PM Starstruck, dazzled, utterly enamored.

6:13PM A long-haired, middleaged set guy in an Iron Maiden T-shirt grumbling about where the hell his dinner is walks by and pulls me back to reality. Or as much in reality as one can be while surrounded by werewolves, vampires and movie stars.

6:15PM Rachelle Lefevre, the villainess vampire Victoria, comes over to talk. On screen, she's a stone-cold killer. In person, she's beautiful, ebullient and ultra-friendly.

Will New Moon's action look the same as Twilight's?

Rachelle Lefevre: It's so much wirework. It's so much actual doing-it. In terms of the look of it -- I think Chris has approached things as it should be, a little rawer and a little more literally grounded.

I think it was very flighty in the first one, so when we were running fast it was almost like you weren't touching the ground -- I think he's factored gravity in a little more than they did in the first film, so that might have a different look as a result.

On New Moon's underwater action:

RL: I spent six hours in a pool doing the underwater stuff. They did a really interesting thing where they did this amazing stunt with the bit where Bella gets caught in the tidal wave -- I think it must have been 2,000 gallons of water in massive -- they looked like huge, rectangular cargo containers you put on the back of trains.

First, they did it with a stunt double, and then they did it with Kristen's photo double, and then they literally, on action, pulled the hatch and she got pummeled with a massive tidal wave and you could watch underwater, which I did because I was in the pool, or you could watch in the monitor. You could literally see her spinning, they created a tidal wave, and they literally filmed until she got spit out. And when it spit her out, the cut was over.

It the stunt work scary?

RL: It's scary for me because I don't like heights, but there's a really interesting thing that happens which is that I'm absolutely terrified when I'm up there, and then they go, "OK, rolling!" -- It's just one of those things that happens to you. So, as me, I'm afraid, and as Victoria I just do what they tell me to do. It's this bizarre thing where you don't want to get all the way up there and not do it. Failure's just not an option, so you just do it.

How close do you come to Bella?

RL: I don't know that I'm going to say. [Laughs] Let's just put it this way -- she lives -- so not close enough.

Does Victoria still wear her "Kiss Me I'm Irish" T-shirt?

RL: No, I got a different outfit. Thank God, 'cause you're wearing the same thing over and over and over again, and you're like, I don't ever want to see that again.

Is Victoria still barefoot?

RL: No. Stephenie gave us permission for Victoria to be wearing shoes in this one because there was so much stunt work that that would have just really jeopardized our safety.

Stephenie always has to have a reason for everything, so there was a whole conversation about why and if I should be allowed to wear shoes, and the idea was that the barefoot thing was something they all did together, the three of them -- Laurent, Victoria and James. Now it's Victoria on her own, and she's a hunter and she's out for Bella, and it's a mission. So I insisted that if I wear shoes, they be military of some kind to symbolize that I was on a mission, so I'm wearing combat boots.

On working with directors Chris Weitz and Catherine Hardwicke:

RL: The fundamental difference between Catherine and Chris is -- for Catherine, it was all establishing everything; it was literally bringing the world to life. So I think that, first of all, she's just different as a director.

She's very raw; she's very high energy; everything is really, really high energy, and she really gets in there with you and sometimes, when they're trying to quiet people on set, you look over and it's Catherine having a conversation with one of her actors. She's super-amazingly energized and animated. And at the same time, I think there was so much going on with having to create every little detail that you got the sense that every second of her energy was accounted for, and she laid the foundation for.

Chris is just much quieter and calmer anyways, but also I think he's come into a world that somebody went through all that to bring to life. So I think that part of the reason he came in just a little more quiet was to sort of respect the fact that he didn't just show up like, "OK, guys! It's Chris Weitz's Twilight now!" He didn't do that at all. He respected that somebody else had laid the foundation ? He's executing beautifully, because we both feel both directed and respected in terms of what we've already done. We love him.

How will New Moon be different from Twilight?

RL: A lot of times when I ask fans, "What's your favorite book?" people say Twilight. The reason I hear a lot is, "Well, it was my first entry into this world," and it's sort of like that first bit that you can never really get back. Your first time. So New Moon is kind of like you know who the characters are, you have some idea of where it's going, particularly if you've read the books, and now what you get to do is watch the real struggle.

Now, nevermind figuring out who everyone is, figuring out who the actors are with who you had in your imagination vs. who they cast. All that is gone, and now all that is set, you get to watch a really horrifically gut-wrenching love triangle. And a real struggle. It's so character-driven. They haven't lost any of the actions sequences -- but at its heart, I do think it's becoming a coming-of-age story, more than just a boy-meets-girl romance, which was beautiful, but not as complicated as it gets now that Jacob is really in the mix.

Are you still going to lose your head?

RL: I sort of feel like you can't really change that. I would love to do a version of Romeo and Juliet where they live happily ever after, but that ain't gonna happen.

6:35 PM We call it a day. Thank goodness. All this glamour is exhausting.

10:07PM Returning to my hotel post-dinner, I see Stephenie Meyer standing in the lobby. I contemplate whether to leave her alone or do my job. I say hello. She shakes my hand warmly. Her eyes are friendly. The two women constantly at her side eye me suspiciously. Their eyes, not so friendly. When I tell her I'm in Vancouver covering New Moon, the kind eyes get wide.

SM: "I'm not allowed to do any interviews." [Awkward silence] "Are you enjoying your trip?"

"Yes. Sure am."

SM: "Well, have a good night and enjoy the rest."

With that, she walks out the door and vanishes into the night with the same efficiency as the characters she's created.

Day Two!

May 8, 2009, 11:30AM In the production office of New Moon -- or excuse me, "Untitled Sports Movie"

Teenbeat posters of Taylor Lautner sans shirt hang on the walls. A dry-erase-board calendar for the month of May is filled with entries like "Bella's House: Exterior," "Volturri" and the last week of May, also the last week of production, reads "Italy." New Moon's Italian-based production will take place in the Tuscan city of Montepulciano, which will serve as stand-in for Volterra.

12:05PM Back on the Volturri set. Ashley Greene wears a roomy, wooly, gray jacket and Kristen Stewart is in dark jeans and a dark, short-sleeved button-down shirt. Robert is wearing that damn maroon robe again. He looks like hell -- ashy skin, dark circles under his eyes. Either he's working through a wicked hangover or the Volturri have not been good to him in the scenes leading to this one.

The three do the same scene several times. Stephenie Meyer is in her chair talking about Grey's Anatomy.

12:08PM A young female production assistant collects cash for "$5 Fridays." Seems everyone on set attaches their name to a $5 bill and throws it in the bag. Whoever's fiver gets picked wins the bundle of Canadian money.

12:09PM The set smells like soup. Mmmmm.

12:10PM A posse of moms is watching filming. Cameron Bright's mother shows off his headshots on her phone. "Isn't it hot?" she asks. I hold off on saying yes. The kid is 16.

12:30PM "Everybody, shut UP!" says the voice coming through the megaphone. Seems the set isn't quite as quiet as it needs to be in order to film. The aggressive megaphone yelling puts the decibel level in check.

12:31PM While watching footage of Kristen looking pale, windblown and anxious in front of a mountain, we're informed that "all visitors must clear the set." "All visitors" clearly refers to "all six reporters," as we are the only people promptly escorted out. What the Forks just happened?

12:35PM I chat up a crewmember during our banishment to the parking lot. He says that in addition to Italy and Vancouver, New Moon has also shot in Tofino, a small village on the west coast of Vancouver Island. He doesn't say what exactly was shot there, but this photo of Tofino looks very similar to the opening aerial shot of the New Moon trailer:

1:02PM We're let back in when it starts raining. No idea what happened while we were gone. Kristen is still filming her scene.

1:04PM Rachelle Lefevre's little sister has been watching filming all morning. She gives her phone to one of the moms. The woman takes it: "Hey, Rachelle! This is Dakota's mom!" Awww.

1:10PM Jamie Campbell Bower is taking on the role of Caius, a Volturri, in New Moon. Bower is a bit of a miscreant. He has little regard for whose face he blows his cigarette smoke in. His hair is lank. He's a bit crude. I effin' love him.

A Totally Cool Chit-Chat With Jamie Campbell Bower

Your character, Caius, wants Bella dead the most. How much of that will we see in the film?

Jamie Campbell Bower: As in the book, the Volturri play a small but necessary part in this film. They come much more into play in the fourth film. I'm playing Caius very angry and agitated with the world, I suppose. Just glaring looks. You'll see as much as you read in the books.

Do you think Caius is agitated because he's the only vampire of the three who doesn't have a power?

JCB: He doesn't have a power! He's just pissed off about that! He's so angry! He doesn't like Bella because he can't eat her. He's not happy about that. Why is she there if he can't eat her? What's the point?

What power would you give him, if you could?

JCB: I'd give him the power of love.

Doesn't Caius have a wife?

JCB: He does have a wife, yeah, but she doesn't seem to be around. I don't know where she is.

What went into your research? Did you read the books? Did you get to talk Stephenie?

JCB: I haven't had a long discussion with Stephenie. My plan is to have a long discussion with her at some point today. Maybe it won't be a long discussion, maybe it will be like five minutes.

Yeah, I read the books and I did a lot of online research, because it's good to know what people who've read the books think about the characters as well. Because the books alone have such a huge fan base. You've got to stay true to what people want to see, I think. So I did that and talked to lots of people. And my friends gave me their ideas as well.

Did they make you audition for the role?

JCB: They did! They did make me audition. Disgraceful, isn't it. Shocking!

Did you read the books before you auditioned?

JCB: No, I didn't read the books before I auditioned, no. I went off the sides. Once I got the role, I obviously read the books. My 15-year-old brother kind of sat me down and insisted. I went back to my mum, and she was like, "You're going to read this, and you're going to read it now!' I was like, "OK, that's cool."

What went into your audition? Was there more than one?

JCB: It was one day. I originally auditioned for the role of Demetri. I went in, did a taping. Chris wasn't there. Then they called me back at like 2:00. Chris turned up; I met Chris. A week later I get a call like, "So, you're not going to get Demetri, but we're going to offer you Caius." I was like, "That's cool!" I'm just psyched to be a part of it. It's awesome.

Are you going to Italy?

JCB: I'm not going to Italy. No, I have to go back to London to go and do Harry Potter, which'll be nice. I'm playing Grindelwald, Dumbledore's old friend, possible lover, who knows.

Do you know?

JCB: It's not in the script -- hardcore love scenes -- but that's the rumor anyways. I don't know who's playing the young Dumbledore. I've only gone in for my fittings and stuff.

Did anything in Sweeney Todd prepare you for this?

JCB: I don't think so because my role in Sweeney, he was kind of soppy. And he was nice; effectively, he was a nice guy. And Caius is, I don't want to say not nice, but he's a little bit more brooding and dark.

1:37PM Stephenie Meyer is drinking a Diet Coke.

1:44PM Meyer approaches our group and says hello. I introduce myself, and she remembers me from the hotel lobby. BFFs! Her people, the ones with the suspicious eyes, remind us this definitely isn't an interview and that she's just saying hello. Okaaay.

Meyer says she reads gossip sites to find out what people are saying about all things Twilight, and that she feels rude for having to avoid us and our questions.

"It's awkward, and I feel really unfriendly."

She is effusively nice.

1:50PM Stunt coordinator J.J. Makaro takes a break from staging an epic vampire fight to talk with us.

How different will the stunts and wirework be in New Moon?

J.J. Makaro: We're striving for a look of our own. Basically, what we're doing is we're trying to strip down all of the old things you've seen in vampire movies. If you've seen it before, we've tried to get rid of it, tried to figure a different way on it. I'm hoping we're going to come up with something that's really cool.

In the first movie, the goal was to make it more like a Hong Kong action-type thing. Are you going far away from that?

JM: Yeah, we're trying to tone the Hong Kong aspect down and go more real. Going to the actors, we spent a lot of time talking to them about what their character would be and what kind of performance. Rather than teaching them how to fight in a particular style, we're trying to adapt our fights to match their style that they already bring with them.

There aren't a lot of fights on this show. Mostly it's been about chasing or jumping and transition of being a human to wolf, and selling the fact that the wolf boys are something that we don't quite understand yet.

We have wirework, but we're really trying to not do a lot of it. We don't want to get into the Hong Kong, floaty stuff that you see all the time, vampires hanging in the air and all of that. It's a tough call, because wires are wires, and the inherent problem with them is exactly that. They get floaty on you. So we're having a heck of a time trying to find the balance that gives us enough to make it supernatural without it being over the top.

What's Rachelle's (Victoria's) wire work like?

JM: She's been doing some really awesome work for us. Her and her stunt double have gotten a great shorthand between them, and they communicate very well. We've been out in the bush slamming her stunt double all over the place, into trees constantly until we get everything to where we feel confident that we're not going to hurt Rachelle, and then we do some stuff with her. She's done some really good stuff, and she's tough, too. We don't have to baby her. She's really keen and a really hard worker. So it's a pleasure doing it.

Most challenging scene of this movie for you guys?

JM: I think in terms of complications, it's going to be the fight. Like I say, we're trying for something different. It's kind of become cool, because we've given ourselves so many limitations that there's only so many holes you can squeak out of to make it work, and it's created its own thing. It's really exciting to see what it is.

What adjectives would you use to describe it?

JM: What we're doing is trying to go inside the vampire world. Everybody always looks at it from the human world. So we see them hanging in the air. We see them doing all this stuff that we think of, but in reality, they're way faster than us. So there's a lot going on that we don't normally see.

In most movies, you'd turn around and there'd be a vampire there and then they'd be somewhere else. We're trying to go into their world and see what's happening for a little bit and then come back into our own and see what it's like. And trying to find the juxtaposition of all of that is where the interesting moments are in this fight that we're working on.

How much CG is being used to create the fight?

JM: There's a fair amount. But the fun of doing these kinds of shows is concentrating on using the CG to enhance what's happening rather than using it to tell the story. So we have a lot of CG work in here. There are parts of it that have to be, because you just physically can't create that element, but more it's about just cleaning up. We'll do something and then they'll go in and clean up what we've done.

2:00PM I spot a picture of what has to be the Wolf Pack on the background of a laptop. Two wolves are a russet-red color, two are white and gray, and the one in the center (Sam Uley, me thinks) is black and slightly larger than the other four. The Wolf Pack will be created exclusively in CGI, but we did learn there was a live wolf on set for the filming of one of Bella's dream sequences.

2:04PM A production assistant hands Stephenie Meyer a copy of New Moon. She signs it. He thanks her profusely. Some relative is going to be thrilled.

2:07PM Supporting actor Charlie Bewley is terribly handsome, has a British accent that will charm your socks off and might just give Mr. Pattinson a run for his heartthrob money. He plays Demetri, a Volturri.

New Moon is your first screen credit. Can you tell us how you got the role?

Charlie Bewley: How I got involved in Twilight is that I just auditioned. And you know what? I went on to TwilightersAnonymous.com, and I asked them about my character -- for the first audition stage. They gave me some insight into who he was and everything, I read the book really quickly to find out about the character, and I just realized that a lot of him is about me.

He's this tracker. He obviously does a lot of running, and I do loads of running, so I just worked out of it. It was very easy for me to play the character, as opposed to building the character from the bottom up -- it's a lot easier when you're acting, to do that. So I just made the character myself, and when I got called back for the second audition, it was in front of Chris [Weitz] and it was in front of Wyck [Godfrey], and I was just myself. [Laughs] I was just, you know, charming and smiles and everything. I wasn't typically vampiric, in that sense. And I think Chris liked it; he started laughing.

In Stephenie Meyer's book, Demetri is described as polite --

CB: Very polite, yeah. And I'm just a nice English guy. I've had my trouble, and it's gone. I'm just a nice guy who doesn't want any trouble. [Laughs] I think Demetri is someone who ... seeks out trouble and adventure. He's getting very bored, having been alive for thousands of years. I think he's interested in trouble -- nonspecific -- or adventure -- nonspecific -- or any kind of action. I think being a vampire, or being alive for 3000 years, just makes you very bored. Look at Marcus' character; he's very apathetic, and he just sat there -- he just wants to die.

Do you actually know Demetri's backstory, based on what's in the book?

CB: I made it up.

Tell us!

CB: Demetri was obviously Italian. And at a young age, he was orphaned. He was living in the foothills of Mt. Vesuvius -- the big, volcanic mountain -- and in 900 A.D., it erupts. Lava starts pouring down, and his parents get caught in it. Their house gets taken apart. I outrun the lava, into the foothills, where I found a place where I was safe, essentially. But I couldn't provide for myself, so I was thrown into slavery. I went through various masters but they couldn't pin me down, because I was so nonchalant and arrogant and just ran away from everyone; it was really frustrating. I kept getting sold on to the next guy -- the next master, for the best price they could get -- and I was too nice for someone just to kill me.

So eventually I got sold to a merchant trader in Rome, who dealt specifically in fighters, and I found myself in front of the Coliseum with these baying, bloodthirsty Romans, desperate for gladiatorial combat. I didn't have any fighting skills, so I just ran around for three hours and no one could catch me -- until somebody shot me with an arrow. I was lying on the floor, I was about to die, I was waiting for Commodus' verdict of thumbs up or thumbs down, and he's about to give it a down when Aro comes in and whispers in his ear and says, "Don't kill him, I'll take him." Aro converts me in the depths of the Coliseum himself, and I've been working loyally for him ever since.

Did you think of sharing this with Stephenie?

CB: [Glances at Stephenie nearby] Oh, yes, Stephenie's there! I actually asked Stephenie --

Are you going with the crew to Italy?

CB: Yeah, we leave on the 24th. I can't wait.

How many weeks will you be there?

CB: Just five days, I think.

For those who haven't read the books, does your character come back?

CB: He does. I recur until right at the end, when I get killed off.

What power would you give Demetri if you could give him another power?

CB: That's a good question. [Pauses to think] I think he's a little bit pissed off that Jane has taken over the head of the Volturi; he hates that. Ergo, I think he would take a psychological power --

2:15PM Charlie has to go back to set, but he promises me that he'll figure out the power he'd give Demetri and report back when he decides.

2:30PM Mr. Bewley motions me over as we watch filming. Seems he really has been pondering the question. Love it.

In an English-accented whisper, Charlie reveals that he'd give Demetri: "the power to change people's minds."

"For example," he says, "in the scene where Demetri is first introduced to the fray, Edward refuses to come with Bella. He says, "Bella, you go off and enjoy the festival. I'll go with Demetri and Felix." If Demetri had the power to switch Edward's mind and change his mind, he wouldn't need Jane to come in and clear up the air, how slow they're being. Jane's brutally efficient because she's so dangerous. This is why she's head guard, and I hate that, as Demetri, because I used to be God. So that's what I'd do."

2:50PM Taylor Lautner meets us in the parking lot wearing a sick pair of high-top sneakers and black skinny-leg jeans. He is polite, well-spoken and has perfect skin. Totes dreamy ... for a 17-year-old.

A Big-Guns Interview With Taylor Lautner

On his stunt work:

Taylor Lautner: I've been doing a lot recently. The cool thing is that they've pretty much let me do all of my stunts. I got to do all the dirt-bike riding. I got to do this really cool sequence that I'm actually not going to tell you about. You've got to wait to see it. But the stunts have definitely been my favorite part so far.

On his physical preparation for New Moon:

TL: I had to put on some weight. While filming Twilight, I knew Jacob's character transformed not only emotionally and mentally, but also physically. So I immediately, the day after filming Twilight, hit the gym and started eating a lot, good food, and trying to pack on pounds. Here I am, 30 pounds heavier.

Was it harder or easier that you thought it would be?

TL: The actual getting-into-the-gym, working-out process was easier, but the eating was harder. Because I had to eat, and everybody was like, "Are you kidding me? I'd love to eat like that."

I had to eat every two hours, and at one point my trainer was literally like, "Put anything in your mouth. Go to McDonald's. Get the biggest shake possible. I just need to get calories in you," because my body fat at that time was only 7.5 percent. I'd wake up, and my trainer would be like, "You need to have six egg whites and bacon and toast." It became a lot. So that was the hardest part, and especially putting something in my mouth every two hours.

Are you maintaining that?

TL: Yeah. I am. I've kind of gotten used to it -- I'm definitely keeping it up while I'm up here.

Can you describe what movements you had to learn for the Wolf Pack scenes?

TL: The biggest thing with Jacob's physicality is that pre-transformation, he's described as clumsy; he trips over his own feet, he's a little kid, and he all of a sudden becomes very agile. It wasn't certain movements or specific things I had to do. It's just all of my movements together, even as simple as walking, had to have more of a presence and definitely be easier than before.

What percentage of New Moon do you spend shirtless?

TL: I'd say the same as the books. I'm not going to give you a percent, but the great thing about this series is that we stay true to the books. So that's what it's gonna be. So if you've read the books, you know what the movie's going to look like.

Are you using your martial arts expertise?

TL: No. it helps with the agility, yes. But it's not like Jacob comes out and kung-fu's the vampires.

Will you put on more weight for Eclipse?

TL: Yeah, I am. Jacob continually grows throughout the series so that means no matter if I'm going to film or not, I'm still going to have to put on a little bit more weight.

Do you have a target weight?

TL: I'll shoot for another 10. We'll see what I can do, but I'll be working hard.

How often are you going to the gym?

TL: About five days a week. I put on a lot of weight, and at one point I started losing weight dramatically. And I was like, what's going on? Why am I losing all this weight that I put on? And what I realized is that I was actually overworking myself. I was going seven days a week. I wouldn't take a day off. I'd be in the gym for two and a half hours and I was burning more calories than I was putting on. So that was my biggest problem, and then I had to cut back to four or five days a week and not be in the gym too long.

What about the wig?

TL: The long hair is definitely a wig. I just wrapped with the wig a few days ago. That was amazing. The whole crew gave an applause. I was so happy.

Are you going to keep it?

TL: They were like, "So do you want to keep it?" and I was like, "If you give it to me I'll probably burn it."

What's been the biggest difference between the Twilight and New Moon shoots?

TL: We know what we're making this time around. For the first film, we really had no idea we were making a big film, we just knew we were all in love with the series and wanted to make a great movie, but we didn't know that all the people were going to fall in love with the movie and it was going to be as big as it was. Now we're coming into New Moon with a little bit more pressure. But we're trying to push that behind us and not think about that and just stay focused on what we need to do.

The differences between Chris and Catherine?

TL: They're both so talented in different ways. What I love about Chris is the set is very calm, and we're just having a lot of fun making the movie. And then you sit back and you look at the results that are happening, and it looks amazing so far.

I'm so excited to see it. You just sit back and see what's going on and it's like, "How are we having such an easygoing relaxed time, and it's turning out the way it is?" But at the same time, the conversations with Catherine, she just related to us so well. So does Chris. They're just talented directors, and I'm thankful I have the opportunity to work with both of them.

Have you had a chance to meet (Eclipse director) David Slade yet?

TL: He came up here briefly. I was in the middle of a stunt rehearsal, and he showed up with Wyck [Godfrey], one of our producers, and he was like, "Hey, this is David." And at this point, he wasn't signed onto the film, and I had no idea who he was. Then all the sudden he started putting these camera hands in my face like, "Yeah, I think this would be a good angle right here." And I was like, "What is he doing?"

Then finally as he was doing that, Wyck was like, "Oh, I should probably tell you who this is. This is David Slade. He's probably going to be doing Eclipse." I was like, "Oh, that makes sense now."

If you could give Jacob, or Jacob as a werewolf, one more power, what would it be?

TL: Oh, boy, that's a tough question. Probably, man -- I want to steal one of Edward's powers because I like it, but then I feel like I'm betraying Jacob if I say that.

Which one of Edward's powers would you take?

TL: Well, I don't want to sparkle. He can read minds though, right? -- I'd kind of like to read Bella's, like Edward can.

What has been your favorite scene to film so far?

TL: I'd either say some cool action scene I got to do, because I really do like the action. Or I really like the breakup scene. We call it the breakup scene. It's the first time Bella sees Jacob after he's transformed when she comes to his house. And she sees for the first time his hair is cut, he's different. He tells her that we shouldn't be friends. It's a really emotional scene.

Considering how moody Jacob gets, do you feel bad for Bella at all?

TL: I don't feel bad one bit. I feel bad for myself. When I was reading the books, I felt so bad for Jacob's character, but now that I'm actually living him, I feel way worse.

Bella is toying with Jacob. I don't care if she's ripped between the two guys. I feel so bad for Jacob because she confuses him. One moment she'll want to kiss him, and the next moment she's ditching him for Edward. I understand where Bella's coming from, and it's a crappy situation for all of them, but I feel really bad for Jacob.

A lot of fans are really looking forward to the scene in Eclipse where Bella and Jacob finally have the kiss.

TL: Yeah, so am I.

3:27PM I'm hungry like Jasper Cullen at a bloody birthday party. I round up coffee and as many mini chocolate pies as I can take without feeling tacky (three) at the craft services tent. Also in the food line are Michael Sheen, Dakota Fanning, Cameron Bright, Charlie Bewley and a handful of the other walking dead.

4:30PM Cameron Bright stops to say hello outside the food tent. He is sweet, refreshingly normal, and his Canadian accent is charming. A mini pie falls from my hand while we talk, and Cameron doesn't bat an eyelash.

4:42PM This adventure is coming to a close. En route to the Vancouver airport, Rick, the teamster who's been driving us around for two days, says that in his years of experience as a set driver, the Twilight pandemonium is one of the more unique things he's seen.

"When you think about it," he says, "It's not really that different from the Beatles. And we're here to see it. We've all been part of a moment."

Fans and haters will say what they want about the books, the movies, the actors, the screaming girls, the rumored romances and everything else related to this nebulous universe of fanaticism, fame and fiction. Ultimately though, Twilight has wedged itself into our cultural consciousness as a pop culture phenomenon.

Rick is right. Whether we like, love it, or, like, really LOVE it, this is Twilight's moment.

Edward Cullen: Who's Hotter? The book or movie version (Robert Pattinson)?

Twilight Fans, I have a question for you. But in order to answer it, you must have read at least one book in the Twilight series and have seen the actor, Robert Pattinson, who stars in the movies.

Who is hotter? Edward Cullen in the novels or Edward Cullen on film? The reason I asked this is because it’s been a debate amongst the fellow Twilight fans I know. They love Robert Pattinson. They swoon over Robert Pattison. But to me, he’s just eh. What’s the deal with him anyway? He doesn’t comb his hair for three days and suddenly he’s a heartthrob. Please!

I love Edward Cullen from the Twilight series though. Stephanie Meyers’ description of him as the strong, silent and blood thirsty type turned me into a full-fledged member of the “I-heart-Edward-Cullen” fan club. Since I was reading books and off in my own fantasy land, I was able to imagine him with the physical features I wanted him to have. For me, the book version is cuter than the film version of Edward Cullen.

Do you prefer the Edward Cullen you created in your mind for the Twilight books, or did Robert Pattinson playing the loverboy vampire exceed your expectations?

Curious as to who my Edward Cullen from the books looks like? I pictured him as Paul Walker. (Can you tell from my footer of my HOT OR NOT group I'm a fan???) Which celebrities do you think fit the image of Edward Cullen?
